IPL 2018: Best XI of the tournament featuring Sunil Narine, Rishabh Pant & KL Rahul

PL 2018 season draws to an end, and we take a look at the best IPL 2018 XI in our IPL 2018 Team of the Tournament featuring the IPL 2018 Best 11 players

IPL 2018 is just 2 games away from concluding yet another successful season where the level of cricket and quality of players coming through has gone to a whole different level. IPL 2018 will stand out from rest of the seasons in a way that the Indian players have shone brighter than the foreign stars which will surely take Indian Cricket to the next level. IPL 2018 group stages ended with Chennai Super Kings leading the points table followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders and it only seems fair that those 3 are the teams left in the competition where CSK team 2018 are already in the IPL 2018 final while KKR team 2018 and SRH team 2018 will face each other in the Eliminator match on May 25 to take on Chennai Super Kings in the final. With the tournament nearing its end, now would be the perfect time to take a look at the IPL 2018 Team of the Tournament featuring IPL 2018 Best 11 players from this season. While many would argue that IPL 2018 Best XI must be made of the teams remaining in the competition but that is the beauty of this year’s IPL where teams who failed to qualify for the playoff rounds or for that matter team which finished at the bottom of the points table had a player who was head and shoulders above many players. On that note, let’s take a look at the IPL 2018 Team of the tournament which will not have the rules of limiting this side to only 4 overseason players.

Sunil Narine – Kolkata Knight Riders

There is no substitute for what Sunil Narine IPL 2018 has brought into this year’s Indian Premier League where he has scored 331 runs (YES, not a statistical error) at a strike rate of 189. Narine’s exploits have made Kolkata Knight Riders a force to reckon with where Narine’s quick-fire start allows KKR team 2018 to score more than 50 runs in powerplay overs with ease. Apart from his runs, Narine has also picked 16 wickets at an economy of 7.77 RPO which stifles KKR’s opponents during the middle overs. Importance of Sunil Narine IPL 2018 to the KKR side can be seen from the fact that whenever Narine scores more than 20 runs, KKR ends up winning 80% of their matches. Add to everything else, Narine does all of it with the most arrogant of flair which alone makes a case for him to be part of IPL 2018 Best XI and Narine indeed is an integral part of IPL 2018 Team of the Tournament.

KL Rahul – Kings XI Punjab

There were no too many Indian batsmen who had a better season than KL Rahul where the Karnataka batsmen scored 659 runs at an average of 54 with a strike rate of 159. KL Rahul hit 66 fours and 32 sixes and was by far the most elegant batsmen in the competition. KL Rahul IPL 2018 came with a big reputation in the IPL 2018 after signing for KXIP team 2018 for over INR 10 Cr and Rahul fully justified the price tag and repaid KXIP their investment as KL Rahul scored more than 28% of the total runs scored by KXIP team 2018. IPL 2018 could finally be the break KL Rahul’s career needed and now he can play regular cricket for India after being part of the IPL 2018 Team of the Tournament.

Kane Williamson – Sunrisers Hyderabad

There were nothing but doubts over Kane Williamson’s appointment as the RH team 2018 captain after David Warner was barred from playing in IPL 2018 and boy has Williamson not answered those critics in style? Kane Williamson IPL 2018 is all but certain to win this year’s Orange Cap after scoring 685 runs and practically he has 2 more innings left in him which could see him cross the 750-run mark this season. When you come to think of it, Kane Williamson is not the ideal T20 batsman of the modern world but he has been mightily effective with a strike rate of 143 and scoring 8 half-centuries from 15 innings so far this season. Apart from his batting, Williamson has been a solid figure for SRH team 2018 being their captain and leading them in these crucial matches and be the main man if Sunrisers Hyderabad want to win their second IPL title.

Ambati Rayudu – Chennai Super Kings

There is something about MS Dhoni and his ability to put an arm around the player and they deliver incredible numbers. He did it in the past with a number of CSK players and the latest to join the line is Ambati Rayudu who has compiled his best ever IPL season and his numbers are off the chart. Ambati Rayudu IPL 2018 was asked to open the innings for CSK and his performances became far more consistent than his time at Mumbai Indians. Rayudu has scored 586 runs this season and could become only the 4th player to score 600 or more runs in IPL 2018 and be one of the reasons why Chennai Super Kings could win the IPL title in the first season of their comeback. Ambati Rayudu IPL 2018 has also offered CSK a lot of flexibility as Rayudu has opened the innings for CSK as well as batted at number 3 and 4 given the team’s need. After an incredibly successful season, it is only fitting that Ambati Rayudu is one of the IPL 2018 Best 11 players and is part of IPL 2018 Team of the Tournament.

Rishabh Pant – Delhi Daredevils

Perhaps this is one of the things to come where Rishabh Pant IPL 2018 replaces MS Dhoni for India’s playing 11 for now, Rishabh Pant is our pick for IPL 2018 Best XI ahead of MS Dhoni and is part of IPL 2018 Team of the Tournament. Rishabh Pant took his game to a different level this season and scored 684 runs at a strike rate of 173. So far this season, Pant has hit the most number of fours and most number of sixes in IPL 2018 and it was almost a no-brainer for Pant to feature IPL 2018 Team of the Tournament. Pant’s wicketkeeping still has a room for improvement and deservedly is part of IPL 2018 Best XI.

Hardik Pandya – Mumbai Indians

Like any other competitive playing 11, IPL 2018 team of the tournament needed 2 in-form all-rounders and first of those all-rounders is Hardik Pandya who was one of the shining lights about Mumbai Indians’ campaign. Hardik ended the season with 18 wickets and scored a respectable 230 runs in the season. Hardik was Mumbai’s go-to bowler when they needed a wicket and often opened the bowling which goes to show the improvement Hardik has made to his bowling after being a disappointment in the South African series.

Andre Russell – Kolkata Knight Riders

Next up in the IPL 2018 Team of the Tournament comes a West Indian fully capable of winning the game on his own like he showed in the Eliminator 1 against Rajasthan Royals where he turned KKR’s average seeming score to a match-winning total and then came back to bowl vital overs. Andre Russell IPL 2018 made his comeback to competitive cricket after serving a 12-month ban but KKR did not bail out on their star player and decided to stick by him. That decision has yielded them 313 runs at a strike rate of over 190 and 13 wickets in the process. Russell is one of the best match-winners in T20 cricket and finds a place in our IPL 2018 Team of the Tournament.

Rashid Khan – Sunrisers Hyderabad

There is no T20 playing 11 these days which can be completed without including Rashid Khan and he once again walks into IPL 2018 team of the tournament as he has been the best spinner in the tournament by a million mile. Rashid Khan IPL 2018 has picked 18 wickets in the competition so far and could have 2 more shots at winning the purple cap which currently rests on AJ Tye’s head who has picked 24 wickets in the season. Rashid’s 18 wickets have come an average of 23 and he strikes every 20 deliveries and has an economy of fewer than 7 runs an over. These numbers are just unreal in a time where batsmen have a free hit against the spinners, Rashid has picked up AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli, and MS Dhoni clean bowled showing what he is capable of.

Umesh Yadav – Royal Challengers Bangalore

The only RCB team 2018 player in our IPL 2018 Team of the Tournament is the revamped Umesh Yadav who was Bangalore’s most potent weapon in the powerplay overs. Out of the 20 wickets this season, Umesh Yadav IPL 2018 picked 14 of those wickets in the powerplay overs. A lot of credit for that has to go to Virat Kohli who decided to use him in the powerplay overs which allowed Umesh to run in and bowl quick and go hard at the openers. There were 3 instances where Umesh picked 2 wickets in the same over which should have won RCB a lot more games than they actually did. Had RCB team 2018 batting been a bit better, we would have seen Royal Challengers Bangalore in the playoff rounds and push to win their first ever IPL title. However, Umesh Yadav had a season to rememebr and rightly so he finds a way in our IPL 2018 Team of the Tournament.

AJ Tye – Kings XI Punjab

Such is AJ Tye’s reputation these days that he was tipped as the favorite to win this year’s IPL Purple Cap and he has proved that notion correct as he has picked 24 wickets from 14 matches. The best part about Tye’s bowling is that he often bowled his overs in latter stages of the innings and yet his economy was a respectable 8 RPO and he was always a wicket-taking threat for the oppositions. AJ Tye IPL 2018 has a variety of deliveries up his sleeve which makes him the hardest fast bowler to hit along with Jasprit Bumrah.

Kuldeep Yadav – Kolkata Knight Riders

There was a tight race between Mujeeb Ur-Rehman and Kuldeep Yadav for the final spot in IPL 2018 Best XI and since KKR team 2018 are a step away from the final, we have decided to go with Kuldeep Yadav IPL 2018 as our final pick in the IPL 2018 Team of the Tournament. Kuldeep’s performances in last 2-3 games have seen Kolkata put a 4-game winning run and are one step away from qualifying for the finals and even win their 3rd IPL title.
