It is that time of the year when Kabaddi takes the center stage with Pro Kabaddi League putting things into motion with the new season auction. PKL Auction 2018 will take place on May 30 and May 31 in Mumbai to give all the 12 participating teams to build their squads for the sixth season of Pro Kabaddi League. With Pro Kabaddi Auction 2018 in motion, all teams were asked to retain a maximum of 4 players from their last season’s squad with teams also having the option of “Final Match Bid” and sign a maximum of 2 players from last season’s squad.
What is “Final Match Bid” in PKL 2018 Auction
Pro Kabaddi League Season 6 Auction 2018 will see an option of “Final Match Bid” being given to the teams where Pro Kabaddi 2018 teams will be allowed to retain a maximum of 2 players from their last season’s squad during the PKL Auction 2018. Pro Kabaddi Auction Teams will first need to decide the number of elite retained players they want in their squad which will decide their Final Match bid privilege during the PKL Auction 2018. All the Pro Kabaddi Season 6 Teams can retain a maximum of 4 elite players from last season’s squad. If any PKL team has retained 4 elite players for Season 6, they get only 1 “Final Match Bid” option, however, if any team has retained less than 4 elite players, they will get 2 Final Match bid option during the PKL Auction 2018.
Most of the Pro Kabaddi 2018 Teams have decided on their Elite players they will be retained, however, U Mumba, UP Yoddha and Jaipur Pink Panthers have given up on the opportunity and will build their teams from the scratch for the 2018 season. There will be 422 players in the PKL Auction 2018 including some of the big name players who were not retained by their franchise. This will give all the Pro Kabaddi Season 6 Teams enough opportunity to sign highly talented Kabaddi Players and build their squad for next season. On that note, we take a look at the 5 players Pro Kabaddi League teams must look to buy in PKL Auction 2018.
Although Patna Pirates decided not to retain their star raider Monu Goyat who was sensational last season scoring 191 raid points and was Patna’s second highest scorer behind their Superstar raider Pardeep Narwal. For the upcoming season, Patna Pirates have decided to retain Pardeep Narwal, Jaideep, Jawahar Dagar and Manish Kumar which means they have only 1 “Final Match Bid” option available to them which by all means, they could use it on Monu Goyat. However, with players like Vishak Mane and Sachin Shingade available to them, we may see Monu Goyat joining any other team in the PKL Season 6. Given the obvious quality Monu Goyat has, many teams will be battling for his signature ahead of the PKL Season 6. He was a backup raider to Pardeep Narwal last season, but Monu has all the qualities of being the front line raider for Pro Kabaddi league 2018 team.
UP Yoddha decided not to retain any of their players for the upcoming PKL season and will build their team from the scratch. If we recall, Nitin Tomar was the costliest player in PKL Season 5 auctions when UP Yoddha spent INR 93 Lacs to sign the star raider. However, many believed that Nitin with 167 raid points did not reach the heights expected from him and underperformed to an extent last season. It is still not certain whether UP Yoddha will go back and use their 2 remaining Final Match Bid option to re-sign Nitin Tomar or will they rely on Rishank Devadiga to be their star raider for PKL Season 6. If that is the case then all the 12 teams in PKL Season 6 will have a tough battle on their hands to sign Nitin Tomar as he can win games on his own.
Captain Coll himself Anup Kumar will find himself in the PKL Season 6 auction pool after U Mumba also decided not to retain any of the elite players and will build their season 6 team from the scratch. Anup Kumar is one of the most complete players in PKL history where his defending qualities is equally important for his team as well as his raiding ability. More than that, Anup Kumar is the best PKL captain and any team would be willing to spend the big bucks to ensure they sign Anup Kumar at the PKL Season 6 auction.
Gujarat Fortunegiants were the best defensive team in the PKL Season 5 and a lot of it was down to Fazel Atrachali and his 57 tackle points from the 24 matches in the season. Fazel’s partnership with Abozar Mighani (65 tackle points) was a key factor in Gujarat Fortunegiants qualifying for the final of PKL Season 5. However, Patna Pirates and Pardeep Narwal’s raiding abilities were too much to handle for Fazel and Gujarat’s defense which saw the PKL franchise allow Fazel to be part of the PKL Season 6 auction pool. If Gujarat do not use their Final Match bid option, there will be a massive bidding war to sign Fazel Atrachali at the IPL Season 6 auction given his match-changing abilities.
Speaking of defense, Surender Nada with 80 tackle points was last season’s best defender which did not come as a surprise given his pedigree in the world of Kabaddi. Surender was Haryana’s backbone in Season 5 which is why it was very surprising to hear when Haryana Steelers decided not to retain Surender Nada and are likely to focus on improving their raiding abilities for next season. Surender Nada is an exceptional defender and an equally inspiring captain making him one of the most sought-after players at the IPL 2018 Auction pool which every PKL side would want to sign.
