The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had been pondering over the practicality of an Indian Premier League-like Women’s T20 cricket challenge. And in the latest development, the BCCI announced that there would be a test-flight event held to check the feasibility of the Women IPL 2018, which would take place on the day and ahead of the Qualifier 1 of IPL 2018, on May 22 at the Wankhede Stadium. The BCCI also announced the two Women IPL teams that would take part in the event, and named India Women cricketers Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur the captains of the teams, IPL Supernovas vs IPL Trailblazers. The match which is being termed as an exhibition match to test out if it would be a practical thing to build towards a Women IPL 2018, the BCCI organised the Women T20 challenge, which would feature some of the best international cricketing stars from Australia, New Zealand and England, as reported by the BCCI.

The main development that boosts the prospects of a Women IPL 2018, is the fact that Indian Women cricketing stars will lead the two teams Trailblazers vs Supernovas – India T20 vice-captain Smriti Mandhana will captain IPL Trailblazers, while the IPL Supernovas captain will be Harmanpreet Kaur, with India ODI captain Mithali Raj also playing under Harmanpreet.

The Trailblazers vs Supernovas will take place on May 22, which is the day of the Qualifier 1 of the IPL 2018 season. The Trailblazers vs Supernovas clash will start at 2:30 PM IST, at the Wankhede Stadium, before the IPL 2018 Qualifier 1 takes place at 7:00 PM IST at the same venue.

The IPL Supernovas vs IPL Trailblazers clash will feature some of the leading women cricketers of the modern era, both Indian and international. While IPL Trailblazers will consist of players like Jemimah Rodrigues, veteran Jhulan Goswami who has registered over 1000 runs and 200 wickets in ODI cricket and New Zealand cricketer Suzie Bates, the IPL Supernovas have Mithali Raj whose cricketing prowess needs no introduction.
