Former Team India captain who is currently leading the Chennai Super Kings franchise in IPL 2018, MS Dhoni, has recently found his touch with the bat and is currently in a sensational form. After what felt like losing his touch, the wicketkeeper-batsman bounced back in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League, and put on display some serious power-hitting, topping the charts of most sixes scored with 28 maximums. When we look at this in the backdrop of his recent form, where his strike rate was going down in the T20 format, this latest development is almost heart-warming. And now it has come to the fore, that Dhoni who is considered a finisher, had asked Stephen Fleming CSK coach to let him bat higher.

While there had been cricket gurus and pundits who had started to write off the former ‘captain cool’, MS Dhoni proved all of his critics wrong and showed that while he was always indispensable as a wicketkeeper and a team captain, it was too soon to decide that he had lost his touch in the batting department. Currently, as the IPL 2018 playoffs near, MS Dhoni is not only registering big figures, but his presence is also acting as a boon to the CSK team. A lot of CSK players have openly spoken about how Dhoni has been a motivating force for them, leading right from the front. Having played 11 matches in the tournament thus far, MS Dhoni CSK has accumulated 393 runs at a blitzkrieg average of 98.25, registering a batting strike rate of over 163, with 3 fifties in the season already.

MS Dhoni requested Stephen Fleming to promote him in CSK batting order

MS Dhoni was asked about the loud improvement in his batting form, ahead of the game against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur recently. The Team India veteran acknowledged and credited his promotion in the CSK batting order, and said that it was the reason for the leader of the ‘Yellow brigade’ to get back into his attacking mindset. He also revealed that he had asked the CSK head coach Stephen Fleming to let him bat higher in the batting order. As reported by Crictracker, MS Dhoni had said,

“Before the start of the IPL I spoke to Fleming and said to him I would like to bat higher. As I bat more and more, I can give you good returns and it was a gamble he took.”

No heavy changes made to batting style: MS Dhoni

Having explained the reason why there was a resurgence of spark in Dhoni’s batting for CSK in the IPL, the Jharkhand cricketer was also asked about what changes he had made to his batting, due to which there was an evident dominance of CSK on other IPL teams. Replying to the query about whether the batting maestro had tweaked his form or style, a  modest Dhoni quipped, “Not a lot (of changes).”

And we believe him, because we know what the Indian cricketing veteran possesses everything that we thought he had maybe lost with time. It goes on to prove and reaffirm the belief of Indian cricket fans, that MS Dhoni is indeed indispensable, and is not going anywhere unless he plays his part in the upcoming 2019 ICC World Cup.
