Sunrisers Hyderabad have managed to make a brilliant start to their IPL 2018 campaign, the SRH franchise have won 6 out of their 8 matches till now and sit pretty at the top of the points table with 12 points. Even though the franchise lost their first choice captain and talisman David Warner prior to the start of the season, the management was successful in bringing back most of their players from last season including players like Shikhar Dhawan, Kane Williamson, Rashid Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. However, surprisingly the most impressive player from the SRH squad 2018 has been 27-year-old uncapped Indian seamer Siddarth Kaul, who has picked up 11 wickets in 8 matches at an impressive economy of 6.88. A lot of pundits from across the world have been impressed with Kaul and his ability to bowl with variations. In the absence of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kaul has spearheaded the bowling contingent and has helped his team win their last 3 matches defending the total of 118, 132 and 151. Siddarth Kaul belongs to a cricketing family

Siddarth Kaul started playing cricket from a very young age just like the majority of young Indians do but at that time he had the support of his father who himself had played Ranji Trophy in the 1970’s for Jammu and Kashmir and was also at one point the physiotherapist of the Indian cricket team. Siddarth’s brother Uday Kaul also plays Ranji Trophy for Punjab.

Siddarth Kaul was part of the 2008 Under-19 World Cup winning squad

Siddarth Kaul was part 2008 Under-19 World Cup winning squad which was led by now Indian Captain Virat Kohli. Kaul played a key part in the Indian team and was part of the playing 11 in all the matches. He eventually bowled the last ball of the tournament dismissing South Africa’s Brad Barnes to seal India’s win in the tournament. In all he took ten wickets at an average of 15.40 in the tournament.

Picked up a 5-wicket haul on his Ranji Trophy debut

Siddarth Kaul made his first-class Ranji Trophy debut back in 2007 for Punjab. He was superb in the 1st innings of his debut match picking up 5 wickets for 79 runs. In all, he has taken 10 5-wicket hauls in first-class cricket.

Was initially drafted into the Kolkata Knight Riders back in IPL 2008

Under-19 cricketers who had won the World Cup in 2008 in Kuala Lumpur were rewarded by the BCCI with IPL berths and annual salaries of approximately Rs 20 lakh for those who have already played Ranji Trophy and Rs 12 lakh for the rest. Siddarth Kaul, who had made his Ranji Trophy debut just a few months back was taken by Kolkata Knight Riders.

Siddarth Kaul was part of the 2013 IPL auction, where he as picked up Delhi Daredevils franchise for INR 45 lakhs but didn’t quite impress with them in 2 years picking up just 6 wickets in 11 matches. His best figures being 2/27.

Siddarth Kaul was part of Sunrisers Hyderabad squad in 2016 but didn’t feature

After 2 disappointing seasons with DD, Sunrisers Hyderabad decided to go after Siddarth Kaul in 2016 IPL auction and eventually bought him for INR 10 lakhs. He didn’t play a single match in the 2016 but was excellent in 2017 picking up 16 wickets in 10 matches, which eventually saw them parting with INR 3.8 crore in the 2018 IPL auction.

The first national call-up came in December 2017

Siddarth Kaul hasn’t played any international cricket for India till now but he received his first call-up to the national squad for the 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka at the end of last year in India. After his superb performance this season, it won’t be surprising to see him making his national debut very soon and if things go like they have gone for him in 2018, he might even make the World Cup squad.

Siddarth Kaul has already represented India A

Following his success with the India Under-19 World Cup winning team, Siddarth Kaul has been part of India A squad that has toured for 2 different tri-series tournaments. In 2013, he was was part of the India A squad that took on Australia and South Africa in South Africa and eventually won. In 2017, he again toured South Africa with the Indian A team and returned after winning the tri-series which had Afghanistan apart from the hosts.

Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni are Siddarth Kaul’s favourite cricketers

Just like millions of Indian cricket fans, Siddarth Kaul is also a huge admirer of the legendary Indian batsman Sachin and takes his inspiration from him. Apart from the master blaster, Kaul is also a huge fan of former Indian captain MS Dhoni, who ironically hit him for 15 runs in an over when Rising Pune Supergiants faced Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2017.

Siddarth Kaul got the Purple Cap for the first time only after SRH’s 8th match 

Even though Siddarth Kaul’s SRH team have been doing so well and he himself has been performing superbly since the start of the season but it was only after Sunrisers win against Rajasthan Royals on April 29th that the seamer got to hold the Purple Cap for the first time this season, a trophy that he hopes to win at the end of the season.
