  • SRH secured their 3rd consecutive win on Sunday when they defeated Rajasthan Royals by 11 runs
  • SRH’s leading wicket-taker Siddharth Kaul has picked up 11 wickets this season and credits his success to the guidance provided by Bhuvneshar Kumar
  • Sunrisers Hyderabad are currently sitting on top of the points table with 6 wins from 8 matches

For the 3rd consecutive time this season, Sunrisers Hyderabad secured a win by batting first and then defending the total. On Sunday (April 29th) SRH managed to defend 152 against Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh stadium in Jaipur, this was preceded by their brilliant effort in the last 2 games, where they managed to defend 118 and 132. The Hyderabad franchise has probably the strongest bowling line-up, which has done superbly well to negate the performance of the batsmen who have been slightly disappointing over the last week. Captain Kane Williamson is the leading run-scorer for the team with 322 runs but the player after him, Manish Pandey has just scored 158 runs.

Exposure to international cricketers a great help: Siddharth Kaul

The win against Rajasthan Royals helped SRH strengthen their position at the top of the table with 12 points from 8 games. The fact that SRH have managed to defend such low scores in the last 3 matches with their spreadhead bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar makes the bowling unit’s performance even more impressive. Siddharth Kaul, the current leading wicket-taker of SRH has been great form this season, picking up 11 wickets from their 8 matches with an economy of just 6.88. The 27-year-old seamer picked up 2 crucial wickets against RR and gave away just 23 runs in his 4 overs, figures which any bowler would be proud of in T20’s.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Siddharth Kaul credited Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s guidance for his performance in IPL 2018. The Under-19 World Cup winning player from 2008 said, “Bhuvneshwar is helping us all the time, when he is playing with the team and in the nets. It is a big advantage when a player having international exposure gives us tips in a particular situation. When he offers us advice, it helps us immensely for players who have started their career.”

SRH can’t afford to get complacent even with 6 wins from 8 matches

Apart from Siddharth Kaul, international players like Shakib Al Hasan and Rashid Khan have also chipped in with their fair share of wickets. The two spinners have picked up a combined total of 18 wickets and along with Kaul have been successful in putting the opposition under huge pressure in the last 3 games. Speaking about the preparations of the bowling contingent, Kaul said, “Any over that is given to the bowlers, be it the first or the last over, they are doing their homework quite well. Everyone knows their role and when to bowl. They are clicking at the right time and it is a question of executing the skills at the right time.”

Sunrisers Hyderabad have a long break now to recuperate and replenish but will go at it again on 5th May against Delhi Daredevils at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Needing just a few more wins to secure their qualification to the play-off stage, SRH will do well not to lose focus until the end. Their main worry at this time will be opener Shikhar Dhawan’s form and Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s injury, both of whom are key to SRH winning their 2nd IPL title this season.
