- Delhi Daredevils beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 55 runs at the Feroz Shah Kotla on Friday
- KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik IPL 2018 was disappointed with his team’s performance
- New DD captain Shreyas Iyer was the star of the show in DD vs KKR IPL 2018
As the Kolkata Knight Riders went down by a big margin of 55 runs against a struggling Delhi Daredevils side on Friday night, skipper Dinesh Karthik IPL 2018 admitted that his side was poor in all three departments of the game in DD vs KKR IPL 2018 encounter. The two-time champions who had inflicted a similar defeat on Delhi in IPL DD vs KKR match earlier in the season, allowed the hosts to pile on a mountain of runs after winning the toss and bowling first.
Delhi Daredevils’ new skipper Shreyas Iyer was the destroyer in chief in the DD vs KKR IPL 2018 match as he massacred the KKR bowlers all over the park during his knock of 93 runs in just 40 deliveries. The 23-year-old was particularly brutal on Shivam Mavi as the young pacer went for as many as 29 runs in the 20th over of Delhi’s innings.
Reflecting on team’s performance in the IPL DD vs KKR match, Dinesh Karthik IPL 2018 said, “I think we did all three departments very poorly. Very disappointed with the result, it literally looked like we didn’t turn up for the match and that is all the more disappointing.”
Is chasing fading away as a trend?
In the DD vs KKR IPL 2018 post match press conference, Karthik was also asked if deciding to field first after winning the toss was the right call and whether chasing as a trend was fading away in the IPL.
“Look, it’s a clear case. If the dew settles in, then chasing becomes too easy. We heard that there is always a little bit of dew towards the end of the game here. But today there was no dew, and then chasing becomes that much more harder. It is as simple as that. When there is dew, it is far easier to play shots, even a lot of mistimed shots go to the boundary and there is lot of pressure on the bowler,” Dinesh Karthik IPL 2018 said.
Was bowling Shivam Mavi in the last over a mistake?
As stated earlier, Delhi captain Shreyas Iyer took a particular liking to young Shivam Mavi as he dispatched the fast bowler for 5 boundaries, including 4 sixes in his last over to stretch his side’s total to a massive 219/4 in the IPL DD vs KKR match. Dinesh Karthik IPL 2018 was also asked whether bowling Mavi at the death was the right choice or could he have gone to someone more experienced like Sunil Narine.
“Look, he is a fast bowler and he is there to do a job. Who else would I have given it to, one of the fast bowlers, not a spinner. You back your fast bowler and he is someone who has been practising death bowling for us.
“We need to show faith in him and that is how he will grow as a cricketer. We don’t need to protect him. At this stage it is important; even if he gets hit, it’s a learning experience. If we start protecting him, he is never going to grow. In life, you get hit, confidence gets a little low, and that is how you learn. I’m sure he will come back a better bowler in good time,” Karthik signed off.
After facing defeat in the DD vs KKR IPL 2018 match, next up for Kolkata Knight Riders will be a visit to M. Chinnaswamy Stadium where they will take on Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday (April 29).
