- Ravichandran Ashwin lamented Kings XI Punjab’s defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad despite chasing only 132
- Ashwin blamed KXIP’s poor fielding and dropped catches as the biggest reason for their defeat
- Ashwin was quick to praise Ankit Rajpoot for picking 5 wickets in the match
Sunrisers Hyderabad pulled off another miraculous win as they defended another low total of 132 and yet defeated Kings XI Punjab by 13 runs. It was the second game in a row where SRH team 2018 defended a low total after bowling out Mumbai Indians for just 87 runs in their previous game while defending an even lower total of 118. While SRH team 2018 bowled brilliantly to pick all 10 KXIP wickets despite them being 56/0 at one stage, KXIP team 2018 captain Ravi Ashwin believes it was his team’s poor fielding which allowed SRH a route back in the game. IPL 2018 SRH vs KXIP saw KXIP drop as many as 3 catches and let Manish Pandey off the hook a couple times as the Indian batsmen went on to score a match-winning half-century. Ravichandran Ashwin IPL 2018 blamed his team’s fielding for the defeat in the IPL SRH vs KXIP clash in Hyderabad last night.
As reported by Hindustan Times, Ashwin said: “I think we fielded pretty badly. We dropped way too many catches for a 20-over game. At the end it cost us. If we had held at least a couple of those catches, we might have given Sunrisers 20-30 runs less. Having said that we must also acknowledge that it is a long tournament and it is important to keep the heads up. You do have bad days.”
Ravi Ashwin was full of praise for Ankit Rajpoot
Despite the defeat, game’s standout performer was KXIP team 2018 bowler Ankit Rajpoot who became the first bowler in this season’s IPL to pick 5 wickets in an innings. R Ashwin IPL 2018 praised the young bowler who was named Man of the Match in Punjab’ last game when they had defeated Delhi Daredevils by a close margin. IPL R Ashwin believed that his fast bowler hit the right line and length and got the reward for being persistently quick and continuing to trouble the batsmen and picking up 5 wickets.
Ashwin said: “He has been bowling pretty well. He is tall, a bit nippy and can swing the ball around. I thought he hit good length in the first six overs while the wicket held a bit. Not every day you get five wickets in T20. It was a good job.”
