Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli has been fined INR 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during the team’s Indian Premier League (IPL) clash against MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday (April 25).
The match was taking place at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, which is the home ground of the Royal Challengers Bangalore, and the hosts had put up a challenging score of 205 runs, with a loss of eight wickets. However, riding on Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni’s monstrous knocks, Chennai Super Kings overhauled the RCB scoreline and won the clash with two balls to spare, in what was a thrilling affair of the bat and the ball between teams led by the current and former Indian captain.
Virat Kohli struggling with defeats and IPL fines
Stating about the fine that was slammed on RCB captain Virat Kohli, who scored a 15-ball 18 before losing his wicket to Shardul Thakur, an IPL press release said, as reported by News 18,
“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Kohli was fined Rs 12 lakh.”
Royal Challengers Bangalore have been struggling to establish their dominance in the Indian Premier League yet again, despite of having two of the most lethal run-scorers in their team, i.e. Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers.
RCB have played six IPL 2018 matches so far, and have won only 2, due to which the Virat Kohli-led team is ranked at a lowly 6th rank in the IPL 2018 table standings, above Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils.
Revisiting RCB vs CSK
The match had started with a lot of expectations from both the teams and there was immense excitement in the air and among the fans, as two of the strongest Indian captains were to battle it out against each other. The toss was won by Chennai Super Kings, and team captain MS Dhoni had chosen for the team to bowl first.
Coming in to bat, RCB openers put up strong performances against CSK bowlers, as Quinton de Kock scored a 47-ball 53, before getting dismissed off Dwayne Bravo‘s delivery, and AB de Villiers scored a 30-ball 68. Other contributions included captain Kohli’s 18 runs, Mandeep Singh’s 17-ball 32 and Washington Sundar‘s 4-ball 13.
RCB tallied a good total of 205 runs, and it was looking as if the out-of-luck team would win this one against a formidable CSK. However, that was not the case. As Ambati Rayudu’s 53-ball 82, MS Dhoni’s refreshing 34-ball 70 which was reminiscent of the vintage ‘captain cool’, and Dwayne Bravo’s 7-ball 14 took CSK over the line and bested Virat Kohli’s team efforts to win the yellow brigade’s 5th match in 6 IPL 2018 clashes so far.
Royal Challengers Bangalore would not be happy to be sitting at the 6th place in IPL 2018 rankings, while on the other hand, Chennai Super Kings – who had gotten off a slow start to their IPL 2018 campaign, and the team which has returned to the fore after two years – is reigning on the top of the IPL 2018 rankings currently, with 5 wins in 6 matches.
