Mumbai Indians will be hoping to turn their season around tonight when they take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. IPL MI vs SRH match will see both the teams come into the match on the back of a defeat. While MI suffered a thrilling 3-wicket defeat against Rajasthan Royals, SRH were completely outplayed by MS Dhoni’s CSK last weekend. Sunrisers Hyderabad have been flying high this season largely thanks to their bowling unit, which surprisingly hasn’t done well in the last 2 matches, therefore, leading to the heavy defeats against KXIP and CSK. Defending champions Mumbai Indians will be worried about missing out on a playoff spot, given that they have lost 4 of their 5 matches till now and sit on the 7th spot in the points table. Both these teams are powerhouses in Indian Premier League, who desperately need a win to lift the mood in the camp, which is why we feel that IPL SRH vs MI could turn out to be a classic IPL 2018 thriller. Both the MI squad 2018 and SRH squad 2018 is filled with T20 superstars from around the world, which is why in this article we take time out and list down 5 players who could play a key role in the IPL 2018 SRH vs MI match at the Wankhede Stadium.
Suryakumar Yadav has found a new lease of life ever since he has moved into that opening role alongside Evin Lewis. The 27-year-old is Mumbai Indians highest run-scorer this season with 196 runs including 2 fifties. While Lewis has been mostly in charge of giving the side a quick start, Suryakumar Yadav has played with a mature head and has looked in superb touch striking the ball from the middle of the bat.
This is already Suryakumar Yadav’s best season in the IPL in terms of runs scored, and given how he has been going, we won’t be surprised to see him among the Orange Cap contenders later in the season. He has become a key component in the MI batting line-up and his partnership with Lewis at the top of the order is essential for the team to reach a winning total. Dismissing him early would be SRH’s plan tonight, otherwise, we could be in for another magnificent knock from the former KKR player
Many were fearing the worst for SRH and Kane Williamson when David Warner was banned from IPL 2018 and the Kiwi was suddenly thrust into the captain’s role but credit to the 27-year-old, he has batted superbly this season even when others around him have failed. With Shikhar Dhawan doubtful for the match against MI, it will be Williamson’s responsibility to lead the SRH batting line-up.
The Kiwi international has scored 230 runs till now at an average of 57.50 and has 3 consecutive half-centuries on his name. Williamson is a classy batsman, who is not known to be a power-hitter and neither a T20 specialist but this season he is showcasing a different side of his game, having smashed 16 fours and 9 sixes till now. Getting him early will be the plan for MI, because the longer he stays in the game, the more difficult the task will be the home team.
Rohit Sharma played a brilliant knock against RCB last week before being run-out on a duck against Rajasthan Royals. He will be itching to get out there and push his team to a much-needed win. Unfortunately for Rohit, his MI team have come close winning on 3-4 occasions but just haven’t been able to cross the line at the crucial stages. More than his captaincy, Mumbai Indians need their captain to fire with the bat, as his failure at number 4 could prove to be really detrimental for the side.
Rohit Sharma has been in great form internationally for the past one year and there is no doubting his abilities with the bat but in order to become a true great, he will need to bring more consistency to his game, something he has been often criticised for.
Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan has conceded a combined 104 runs in his last 2 matches and has picked up just 2 wickets. Normally we don’t associate such numbers with the mystery spinner but unfortunately for him, a couple of players from KXIP and CSK have taken a real liking to him, especially Chris Gayle, who smashed 6 sixes of his bowling last Thursday including 4 in one over.
Knowing Rashid Khan, he will be itching to get back out there and showcase to everyone that those two spells were just a blip and far-off from what he is capable off. Sunrisers Hyderabad have spent a huge amount on the 19-year-old the important of him doing well for the side can’t be overstressed. The youngster is also very good with the bat, as he showed in the last match, scoring 17 runs off just 4 balls and almost helping his team cross the finishing line.
Over the last 2 seasons, Krunal Pandya has become a key part of the MI squad and the day is not far when we will see him put the Indian blue jersey. The bowling all-rounder picked up 6 wickets till now and although he has scored just 89 runs, he has smashed 10 fours and 3 sixes. He is MI’s main strike-bowler in the middle-overs and it is crucial for him to pick up a couple of wickets between overs 7th to 15th in order to prevent the opposition from having a solid base for the final few overs of the innings.
27-year-old Krunal will be hoping that his all-round performances in IPL 2018 can help him get selected in the Indian side prior to the 2019 cricket World Cup. Apart from being an excellent bowler and a handy batsman, Krunal is also a fine fielder something that is essential for players aspiring to play international cricket for his country. Sunrisers Hyderabad batsmen must be careful in not gifting their wickets to the left-arm bowler.
