Kolkata Knight Riders meet Kings XI Punjab on April 21, at 4 PM at the Eden Gardens Stadium, and ahead of the clash, Piyush Chawla was seen giving some insights into how the KKR team works. Speaking about the KKR captain, Chawla claimed that it was ridiculously easy to work with Dinesh Karthik, a factor that could well be the reason why KKR are in such a dominant position.

Piyush Chawla and Dinesh Karthik share a comfort level, which makes KKR functioning smooth

Dinesh Karthik was a name that had popped up in the team decision boardrooms, and was being considered for captaincy for KKR in IPL 2018, along with KKR veterans like Piyush Chawla and Robin Uthappa. Speaking about how Karthik’s captaincy turned out to be a blessing for KKR, Piyush Chawla said,

“He is someone who is very easy to handle situations with, like you can work with him nicely. And Maybe I have a comfort level with him because I have played Under 19 with him, and in India also we have played together, so we share that comfort level.”

“He is somebody who is ready to do something different when you suggest him. So, that comfort level between a bowler and a captain is very important. He has never forced me to do something that he had wanted to do. He lets you be you and he asks you to setup your own field and everything.”

Kolkata Knight Riders have shown great promise in IPL 2018, with their all-new captain Dinesh Karthik in his groove, who was bought for INR 7.4 crore at the IPL 2018 auctions by the Shahrukh Khan-owned franchise. Currently, the KKR franchise is ranked at No. 2 in the IPL 2018 table standings, having played five matches so far and winning three out of those. And credit to the winning performances of team veterans such as Piyush Chawla, Dinesh Karthik, Robin Uthappa, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine, the team is looking in a strong position to chase their third IPL title.

The 29-year-old added that it was great to be a senior player of the team, specially when the team was welcoming youngsters like Shivam Mavi, Nagarkoti etc.

Feels nice to be a team veteran, says Piyush Chawla

In the interview with Cricbuzz, Piyush Chawla spoke about being a senior and veteran of the team, and said,

“It’s always nice when you’re in the team from the last 5-6 years, doing well and a lot of youngsters have come in. So it’s nice to help them even during the match.”

Piyush Chawla has over 800 domestic wickets. When asked about how he keeps himself motivated, the all-rounder said,

“The love for cricket, the passion for cricket. I started playing cricket, not because I wanted to do something great, but because I loved the game. Because when you start playing cricket or any other sport, you don’t think that ‘I will play for India or anything like that’. You just start that because of the love. So, that is something that keeps motivating me.”

Speaking about how he started his career alongside some of the greatest Indian cricketers, Piyush Chawla said,

“I was lucky enough to share the dressing room with all these greats like Sachin paaji, Viru Bhai, Laxman, Rahul bhai, Anil bhai. I was really fortunate.”
