- Siddarth Kaul IPL 2018 is positive and upbeat despite the first loss of the season for SRH Team 2018
- Sunrisers went down by 15 runs in the IPL 2018 SRH vs KXIP match on Thursday (April 19)
- Chris Gayle recorded his 6th IPL hundred during the match
After a dream start to their IPL 2018 campaign where they recorded three wins in a row, the Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered their first defeat of the season against Kings XI Punjab on Thursday (April 19). The SRH Team 2018 started off well with their bowlers keeping things tight in the initial stages but had to endure a deadly ‘Gayle Storm’ soon after that as they eventually went down by a margin of 15 runs in the IPL 2018 SRH vs KXIP match. Siddarth Kaul IPL 2018, one of the stars of Sunrisers’ campaign so far, spoke to the media after the match and stated that his team is still upbeat despite the defeat against Punjab.
Mindset while bowling to Chris Gayle
The first question that came up during the press conference for IPL Siddarth Kaul was regarding his mindset and SRH Team 2018 plans while bowling to a destroyer like Chris Gayle in the IPL 2018 SRH vs KXIP match. To this Siddarth Kaul IPL 2018 said: “The mindset is to get the execution right. The team gives you a specific role, when to do what and how to bowl to Gayle. Tough luck for us today as his execution was better that ours. He was connecting everything after a while and his shots came off really well so it was advantage KXIP from thereon.”
Siddarth Kaul IPL 2018 on Shikhar Dhawan’s injury
Moving on, the next big topic of discussion had to be the injury to Shikhar Dhawan which not only impacted the IPL 2018 SRH vs KXIP game but might also affect the SRH Team 2018 campaign going forward. Siddarth Kaul IPL 2018 was very forthright in his reply and acknowledged Dhawan’s absence as a big blow. “Obviously when your main player is injured, there is a setback. I believe we had players who are capable of converting their starts and could have still won it for us. In the end, we lost by only 15 runs, not by a huge margin as was initially thought after Dhawan’s injury in the first over of our innings.
“We have good players who have been performing well. We have been on the top of the charts and a single game doesn’t change much. We will be positive and hope to perform better in the matches that are coming up in the next few weeks,” IPL Siddarth Kaul said.
IPL Siddarth Kaul’s views on Rashid Khan bowling the final over
Finally, Siddarth Kaul IPL 2018 was also questioned on captain Kane Williamson’s decision to have Rashid Khan bowl the final over when the Afghan leg-spinner had been taken for plenty by Chris Gayle in his last over. After conceding as many as 27 runs in the 14th over, Rashid came back well in the 20th over but ended up with figures of 4-0-55-1 in the IPL 2018 SRH vs KXIP match, which ultimately proved fatal for SRH Team 2018.
On this, IPL Siddarth Kaul said: “Our main bowler Rashid Khan was going for plenty of runs so we thought of bowling him at the very end and were hoping that Gayle would be back in the pavilion by then. So the other experienced guys, Bhuvi, Jordan and me were supposed to bowl earlier. Our game plan was simple – if Gayle is dismissed, Rashid can come back and bowl the final over. It wasn’t like we didn’t keep the last over for Bhuvi, it depends on the situation in the match and we were going with the flow at that point of time.”
