- Former Indian seamer Zaheer Khan reveals that AB d Villiers helped Virat Kohli improve his pull shot during the initial few seasons of IPL
- AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli have over 5700 IPL runs including 7 hundreds
- Zaheer also lavishes praise on Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma and believes that he should definitely open the batting
Over the past decade in the Indian Premier League, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers partnership at Royal Challengers Bangalore has by far been the most successful one in the league. Both these batsmen have a combined total of over 5700 runs in the Indian Premier League, which includes 7 massive centuries. Unfortunately for the duo, their fruitful partnership hasn’t been able to take RCB to that elusive IPL Title, even though the franchise has reached the Final of the T20 tournament 3 times. However, with a very successful auction behind them, Virat Kohli IPL 2018 and AB de Villiers IPL 2018 target will be to take their till the Final and hopefully take the franchise over the line for the first time ever. Zaheer Khan, who played 4 seasons of IPL with the RCB outfit, recently spoke at IPL preview show with Cricbuzz about the partnership between Kohli and De Villiers, how the South African helped the Indian captain during his early career days.
AB has worked quite a lot with Virat: Zaheer Khan
Zaheer Khan, who played for Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Daredevils during his career will be an expert with Cricbuzz for the upcoming edition. During a preview show for IPL 2018, the former Indian seamer spoke about AB de Villiers influence on Virat Kohli’s career. He said,” AB has worked quite a lot with Virat, to teach him how to adjust himself to play a good pull shot.”
“Virat Kohli, when he started wasn’t great at playing a pull shot but within a year, he is just like waiting for someone to bowl a short delivery. So that just happens by conversations with players like AB de Villiers and spending time in the nets,” the 39-year-old further added.
Why should Rohit Sharma open the batting for Mumbai Indians this season?
Zaheer Khan, who is the older player to achieve the milestone of picking up 100 IPL wickets, enjoyed quite a bit of success with the Mumbai Indians. During the discussion which also involved Harsha Bhogle and Simon Doull, Zaheer also spoke about the current Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma. He said,”Rohit will certainly open, he is too good a batsman to bat at number 4. If you even look at his statistics, if he faces 10 deliveries than the initial risk of that new ball is out of the way and then the sky is the limit. Rohit can even give you 100 runs in 20 overs if he faces 60 deliveries.”
The Indian Premier League season 11 will kick-off tonight at 8:00 PM at the Wankhede Stadium as defending champions Mumbai Indians take on the returning Chennai Super Kings. Royal Challengers Bangalore, on the other hand, will start their campaign on Saturday (8th April) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Virat Kohli IPL 2018 will be mainly focussed on getting franchise their first ever IPL title after missing out on the big prize by narrow margins on several occasions in the past 10 years. ABD IPL 2018 focus will be helping the team achieve it’s target this season and just like he helped Kohli some years back, help the youngsters at RCB in improving their game.
