- Rajasthan Royals opener Rahul Tripathi excited to be working under the mentorship of Shane Warne
- Rahul Tripathi shifted to RR this season following his successful stint with RPS last season
- The 27-year-old is also very excited to be playing under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahane, who was his opening partner at RPS
Rajasthan Royals team for IPL season 11 bores a very similar look to last year’s Rising Pune Supergiant and one of the players who has moved to RR along with the likes of Ben Stokes and Ajinkya Rahana is Rahul Tripathi. After being picked up for just INR 10 lakhs by RPS last season, Rahul Tripathi IPL 2018 contract with Rajasthan Royals 2018 team took a massive jump to INR 3.4 crore. The sudden rise in the price came from the fact that Tripathi was excellent for Pune last season, scoring 391 runs at an average of 27.92 with a phenomenal strike-rate of 146.44.
From MS Dhoni to Shane Warne
In his short IPL career, Rahul Tripathi has managed to work with the likes of MS Dhoni, Ben Stokes and Steve Smith at RPS, while this season he will also have legendary Australian spinner Shane Warne looking out for him. Speaking to News Nation, the right-handed opener had nothing but praise for Dhoni. He said,”I learnt a lot from Dhoni last year. A lot of times he used to call me to his room and discuss my game with me, it was a great experience. He is like my idol, he taught me a lot of things last season.”
“This year, Shane Warne will be with us, I am very excited that I will again get a chance to learn so much from him. He has been a legend of the game and I am hugely excited to hear about his experiences and learn more about the team from him,” Tripathi further added when asked about working with Shane Warne.
Shane Warne was the captain of the Rajasthan Royals team back in the inaugural season when the franchise against all odds lifted the trophy after a sensational final against Chennai Super Kings. The leg-spinner who took 708 wickets in test cricket will be mentoring the Rajasthan Royals 2018 team and his wealth of experience will be very handy for the young players of the RR team.
Excited to be playing under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahane
Following the Australian ball tampering controversy, Steve Smith was not only banned by Cricket Australia for one year but was also banned from playing in IPL 2018. Ajinkya Rahane IPL 2018 will now be as the captain of the team in the upcoming season. Both Rahane and Rahul Tripathi enjoyed a lot of success opening the innings for Rising Pune Supergiant last season. The 27-year-old Maharashtra player is very excited to be captained by Ajinkya Rahane, who had also captained the RPS team in one game last season. The opener said, ” Last season also I played under Ajinkya, and this year again he is the captain of the team so I am very excited. He captained the team once last season and it was great fun. I am looking forward to working under his captaincy this season and enjoying the experience even more.”
“It was really beneficial for me to open the innings with him last season, he used to keep telling how I was doing and used to encourage me whenever I played a good shot. There is a lot to learn from his experience and this time under his captaincy also I will get to learn a lot,” Tripathi added at the end.
Rajasthan Royals 2018 IPL campaign will start on 9th April against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Ajinkya Rahane IPL 2018 season will be a tough one given how well the other team’s did in the auction and the fact that Rajasthan Royals team will be missing a key player in the form of Steve Smith. But with quality players like Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Rahane and Rahul Tripathi, RR should be confident of at least going till the play-off stage.
