Former Kolkata Knight Riders star Yusuf Pathan was all praises for his former captain Gautam Gambhir and claimed that Gambhir was a pillar of strength for him even when the form was not on his side. Yusuf Pathan IPL 2018 campaign will be with Sunrisers Hyderabad who becomes Yusuf’s 3rd IPL side after Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders. Like Yusuf, Gautam Gambhir IPL 2018 campaign will also be with a new team where he will be captaining Delhi Daredevils in the IPL 2018. Yusuf believes Gambhir is an aggressive captain and will do good by any team he manages.
Commenting on Gambhir’s role in his IPL career and a successful stint at Kolkata Knight Riders, Pathan said: “Gautam is really a fantastic and an aggressive leader. I really appreciate that even when I was struggling, he backed me. When your captain is positive and fierce, he can always extract the best out of your cricket and that is what Gautam is capable of. In many matches, he did not perform as an individual or our side posted a low total, but his positive attitude helped us sail through.”
Yusuf Pathan focused on Sunrisers Hyderabad and IPL 2018
Yusuf was very bullish and excited about playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2018 season and said that as a true sportsman he is focused on having a good season with Sunrisers Hyderabad and not think about facing against his former team, Kolkata Knight Riders. Yusuf Pathan IPL 2018 campaign will perhaps be his first where he is not guaranteed a playing in the starting 11 for his team.
Yusuf, 35 is not getting fitter and his bowling has gone downhill in recent years. SRH have the luxury of playing Mohd Nabi down at number 7, who is a similar player to Yusuf Pathan, however, despite the competition for places Yusuf is confident of playing regularly for the Sunrisers and even hopes of making a comeback to the Indian national side.
Yusuf said: “I am training and working hard on my batting & fitness skills. I know it’s a tough road ahead, but if you work hard you will achieve success. I am not in a mood to give up. I will keep fighting.
Yusuf Pathan looking forward to playing with Manish Pandey
Yusuf Pathan IPL 2018 season will have a familiar face with him in Manish Pandey as the duo has played regularly for Kolkata Knight Riders in previous seasons. Yusuf claimed that he shares a good understanding with Manish Pandey and has batted with him many a time which could help them gel for Sunrisers Hyderabad this season.
Yusuf Pathan is confident of a successful IPL 2018 campaign with Sunrisers Hyderabad and believes he will do everything in his power to take the “Orange Army” to their 2nd IPL title. Gautam Gambhir IPL 2018 season will also be with a new team in Delhi Daredevils where he would hope for a positive start as well.
