- Ahead of IPL 2018, Pant is working on specific skills and his fitness
- After a lukewarm Nidahas Trophy, Rishabh Pant’s IPL 2018 campaign will be important for the youngster
- Pant also revealed that he had a hearty conversation with national coach Ravi Shastri which is helping him
After enduring a modest return in the recently concluded Nidahas Trophy T20 tri-series in Sri Lanka, Rishabh Pant is now working on a specific skill-set and has his eyes firmly set on the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2018). The 20-year-old could only manage scores of 23 and 7 in the first two matches of the tri-series before being replaced by KL Rahul in the side.
Pant was retained by Delhi Daredevils ahead of the IPL 2018 auction and will form an integral part of the project ‘DD 2018’ under captain Gautam Gambhir and coach Ricky Ponting this year. As such, the dashing southpaw is working overtime to work on his fitness and have a successful IPL 2018 campaign.
Pant reveals conversation with Ravi Shastri while returning from Sri Lanka
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a DD 2018 training session, Pant said: “I am working on certain skills and also fitness with my coach Tarak Sinha. While returning from Sri Lanka, I had an interaction with Ravi Shastri. He told me to work on certain skills and I am trying to implement it in my game.”

When asked to elaborate on the kind of advice he got from Ravi Shastri, he replied, “It’s between the coach and his player. I can’t disclose that. It was a good interaction. The atmosphere in the Indian dressing room is fantastic. I learnt a lot. Failures often teach you a lot and I believe I will comeback harder.”
Will Ricky Ponting have his say in Rishabh Pant IPL 2018 campaign?
In latest Delhi Daredevils news, new head coach Ricky Ponting has joined up with the DD 2018 team and Pant is excited to work with the legendary Australian batsman. “Ricky sir gives you a lot of positive vibes. He is someone who always wants to win and same with our skipper Gautam Gambhir. I am expecting that things will change this season. The coaches can work on your mindset but it is the player, who has to give his hundred percent and execute it on the field,” Pant said. The former Aussie captain can certainly have a big say in making Rishabh Pant’s IPL 2018 season a huge success this year.
Amid the recent ball-tampering controversy which has engulfed the world of cricket, the young wicketkeeper-batsman also weighed in on the ‘Spirit of the Game’ debate and said, “At this young age I am open to learning from everywhere. Cricket is ‘gentleman’s game’ and thus, should be played in that spirit only.”
