India Super Cup 2018: Gokulam Kerala’s Henry Kisekka hoping for ‘good offers’, but happy at the club

  • 28-year-old Ugandan striker Henry Kisekka joined Gokulam Kerala in January and scored 7 goals in 4 games for the club
  • The lethal forward is happy to look at potential offers but is concentrating on the upcoming Hero Super Cup 2018 India campaign
  • Kisekka scored twice in the India Super Cup 2018 qualifier to send his team to the Round of 16

With the club finishing 7th in the recently concluded 2017/18 I-League season, the Hero Super Cup 2018 India holds all the more important for Gokulam Kerala as the tournament will provide the rookie club an opportunity to lock horns with the country’s elite clubs and shine on the biggest of stages. One man who will be tasked with the responsibility of leading the club in India Super Cup 2018 will be 28-year-old Ugandan striker Henry Kisekka.

Joining the club only as recently as in January this year, Henry Kisekka turned out to be the missing piece of the jigsaw puzzle for Gokulam Kerala in their maiden I-League campaign and scored crucial goals against marquee clubs like Mohun Bagan and eventual champions Minerva Punjab in his team’s late-season surge.

In Gokulam Kerala’s Hero Super Cup 2018 India qualifier against NorthEast United FC, it was again Henry Kisekka who scored a brace and ensured his club’s qualification to the India Super Cup 2018 Round of 16 where they will now meet ISL finalists Bengaluru FC on April 1 at the Kalinga Stadium in Odisha.

Henry Kisekka delighted to join Gokulam Kerala

The Ugandan striker joined the Kerala-based club after spending the majority of his career in the Vietnamese V.League 1. Henry Kisekka recently spoke to Goal and expressed his delight at the decision to move to the I-League and join Gokulam Kerala.

I just want to thank god for his gift of life that brought me here. It has been a wonderful feeling, it’s like family here. The team has good chemistry and it helped me a lot to get into the team and interact with the players and coaches. I’m feeling good.

When I came, I did not get to know about the situation of the team. When I came, I just wanted to do my bit. I connected with the team and that helped me. I knew the team hadn’t done so well but I just tried to do what I can do best,” he said.

The 28-year-old frontman is now looking forward to the challenge helping his side go deep in the Hero Super Cup 2018 India and also shed some light on his relatively smooth integration into the Gokulam Kerala side and adaptation to a new culture in India.

Besides the local players, the presence of Mudde Musa helped me a lot. He was here before me and when I came, I knew there was someone here whom I can talk to, who can communicate with me on the field, who can speak the same language. We have been together for the national team as well. We combined well on the field, he understands me and I understand him,” Kisekka stated.

“Looking forward to offers but happy to focus on Hero Super Cup 2018 India”

Henry Kisekka is reportedly loaded with offers from other clubs after his stunning spell with The Malabarians. The former Quang Nam player is happy at where he is but is open to offers from elsewhere. He reiterates that he is completely focused on Gokulam Kerala’s India Super Cup 2018 campaign and will do his best for the club.

So far, my stay in India has been great. I am welcome here, I am sharing joy and happiness. It is great being here. If I get a good offer, I am looking forward to it. I would work on it. For now, I’m looking forward to playing in the Hero Super Cup 2018 India,” he signed off.
