Two-time IPL champions and probably the most successful team in the league, Chennai Super Kings will make a long-awaited return to the Indian Premier League. Matches involving CSK in IPL 2018 are expected to be full of entertainment and quality cricket, especially now that Chennai Super Kings roster 2018 for upcoming IPL looks immensely strong following a great auction back in January, where the Chennai Super Kings owner was able to bring back the core of the team that was shattered two season’s back after Supreme Court suspended the franchise. Chennai Super Kings team 2018 has the look of previous years champions but also has a tinge of freshness to it, which should make them very difficult to beat for any opposition. Quality players like Lungi Ngidi, Shane Watson, Mark Wood and Sam Billings should the squad the much need boost as they embark on a journey to lift their third IPL title.

Karn Sharma was also added to the CSK roster 2018 following his brilliant season with Mumbai Indians last year. Actually, when we have one look at the Chennai Super Kings roster 2018, we see a lot of former Mumbai Indians players featuring in it including the likes of Harbhajan Singh, Dwayne Bravo, Karn Sharma and Ambati Rayudu. CSK are the only team to reach the playoff season in every season they have participated and one can give the credit for such consistent success to the performance of the 7 Indian players who combined with 4 foreigners form the playing 11. Hence, like every year, CSK owners made sure that rather than getting a bunch of foreign players who will spend the majority of the time on the bench, they got some hugely talented young Indian players who will not only form the backbone of the team but will also help the team grow in coming years when the veterans hang up their boots.

It wasn’t surprising to see that the Chennai Super Kings owner retained the Indian trio of MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja for the upcoming season 11 of IPL. All these three Indian players played an important role in Chennai Super Kings team list in the period before their suspension. One player who lost out a place in the squad was India’s prime test bowler Ravi Ashwin, who will be captaining Kings XI Punjab in IPL 11 after the franchise bought him for INR 7.6 crore in the mega-auction held in January. However, CSK’s management did their best to replace the void left by Ashwin by buying Harbhajan Singh for INR 2 crore. Previous IPL winners Murali Vijay and Ambati Rayudu are also part of Chennai Super Kings Roster 2018 for IPL 11. Chennai Super Kings Team 2018 also has T20 specialists in the form of Dwayne BravoImran Tahir and Faf du Plessis.

The X-factor in this CSK roster 2018 could be Australian veteran T20 player Shane Watson, who on a number of occasions in the past has shown why he is regarded as one of the greatest all-rounders in the 21st century. Watson’s former team Rajasthan Royals were very keen to get the 36-year-old back in the blue for the 11th season but Chennai Super Kings looked determined from the moment his name came up in the auction. In the end, Watson joined the Chennai Super Kings roster 2018 following a INR 4 crore bid by CSK in order to put Dlehi Daredevils out of the running. In Santner, Tahir and Harbhajan, the CSK roster 2018 looks to have a mean spin department which should be great news for MS Dhoni given the turning nature of the pitch in Chennai, where CSK will be playing 7 home games,

1. MS Dhoni (C)

Chennai Super Kings Owner

Chennai Super Kings was formed with the initial 8 teams back in 2008. Indian Cements managed to acquire the rights to the franchise for 10 years for a sum of $91 million, making it the fourth most expensive team in the IPL following Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. However, after winning 2 titles, and reaching 4 finals in the span of just 8 seasons, Chennai Super Kings were banned by the orders of the Supreme Court for a period of 2 years after it struck down a controversial BCCI amendment in their constitution that allowed board officials to have a commercial interest in the IPL and the Champions League T20. Following Supreme Courts orders, the franchise was taken over by a separate entity Chennai Super Kings Cricket Ltd, who are the current Chennai Super Kings owner. They also like to exercise their control over Chennai Super Kings team list and the players who will shape CSK’s image for the future.

Given the tumultuous time the franchise has suffered over the past 2 years, the Chennai Super Kings owner would be hoping that MS Dhoni and all the players on the CSK roster 2018 can give the passionate fans of the franchise something to cheer for by the end of the season. Even though the pressure was on CSK to get a good start to the new season, the Chennai Super Kings owner did a superb job to bring the majority of the players who had played for the franchise prior to the suspension.

Dwayne Bravo Credits MS Dhoni for making him into a death over specialist

CSK all-rounder and one of the best all-rounders over the past 10 seasons of IPL, Dwayne Bravo has credited MS Dhoni for making him into a death over specialist. Bravo joined the Chennai Super Kings team 2018, after the management used the right to match card in the January auction. Speaking about Dhoni, Bravo said, “He has shown a lot of faith in me, the trust. For me it’s all about preparation. I always like bowling to MS in the end (in practice sessions) as he is one of the best finishers in the game and I challenge myself by bowling to him.”

The 34-year-old Bravo is the 5th highest wicket-taker in the history of IPL, and has managed to win 2 Purple Caps too. He believes the reason for Dhoni’s success is his belief in giving players a chance to express themselves and learn from the mistakes they make. The West Indian said, “As a leader he is one of the best that has every played the game, he allows players to express themselves, allows them to learn from their mistakes. He’s very cool, very calm and that’s very good.” He is currently training with the Chennai Super Kings team 2018 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium before the opening group match against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. Bravo’s role in the team is certainly not limited to only bowling rather from time to time the West Indian is required to tonk a few balls over the roof of the Chennai stadium.
