The start of the 11th season of Indian Premier League is just a few days away now and the franchises are in the thick of their pre-season preparation right now. There is some very good news for all the Kolkata Knight Riders supporters because while taking part in Sourav Ganguly’s Kolkata leg book launch of ‘A Century Is Not Enough‘. KKR CEO Venky Mysore confirmed that both Chris Lynn and Andre Russell are expected to be fit and available for KKR’s first league match against RCB on 8th April, along with Sunil Narine.
Venky Mysore expects Chris Lynn and Andre Russell to join the KKR camp for IPL 2018 soon
Australian opener Chris Lynn had suffered a shoulder injury which had completely ruled him out of PSL season 3, while Andre Russell pulled his hamstring during a match in PSL. As reported by NDTV Sports, clearing all rumours surrounding their availability, Mysore said, “We are expecting Lynn and Russell to play on April 8. They will join the camp.”
West Indian all-rounder Andre Russell was retained by the KKR side, however, for Chris Lynn, they had to dig deep into their pockets and fork out INR 9.6 crores. Mysore also took time out to give updates regarding fast-bowler Mitchell Starc, who is currently with Australia playing a test match in South Africa. He said, “I think Starc’s report was not necessarily very accurate. He is absolutely fine. It’s a bit unfortunate with the injuries. All the reports we are getting, they are making very good progress. Fingers crossed.”
There were also doubts regarding the availability of spinner Sunil Narine, who was again reported for an illegal action in the ongoing Pakistan Super League. Mysore clarified the air and said, “That was a strange one. But he is fine. He has played international cricket, he has played two-three series and there is absolutely no issue. He has put it behind him already.”
KKR parted ways with their 2-time title-winning captain Gautam Gambhir, who rejoined Delhi Daredevils. However, in Dinesh Karthik, the franchise has picked up a very capable player to lead the side in IPL season 11. Karthik was single-handedly responsible for taking India over the line in the final of the Nidahas Trophy against Bangladesh. He walked in with India needing 34 runs off 12 balls and did the unthinkable when he smashed a six of the last ball to win the match and the series for India.
