In latest Mohammed Shami news, Indian Premier League (IPL) chief Rajeev Shukla has confirmed that the BCCI and IPL bosses are yet to receive a report from the board’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) regarding the allegations leveled by pacer’s wife Hasin Jahan, which would be require to decide on Mohammed Shami IPL participation. Shami’s IPL participation has been thrown into doubt following his wife’s claims that the Delhi Daredevils-bowler had collected money from a British national ‘Mohammad bhai’ sent through a Pakistani woman, Alishba.
Hasin Jahan, Shami’s wife and a former Kolkata Knight Riders cheerleader, has also filed a criminal complaint in a Kolkata police station listing several other serious charges against Shami, which include domestic violence and attempt to murder. As a result, the BCCI went on to omit the bowler from its fresh list of annual player contracts, keeping his name on hold.
BCCI waiting for ACU report to decide on Shami’s IPL participation
Following the charges against Mohammed Shami coming out in public domain, the Committee of Administrators (CoA) head, Vinod Rai, had asked ACU chief Neeraj Kumar to investigate the matter and prepare a detailed report on the same. Speaking on the whole issue IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla said BCCI was awaiting the report from the BCCI’s anti-corruption unit head, Neeraj Kumar, on the allegations’ substance, which would be needed to decide on Mohammed Shami IPL participation.
“The Committee of Administrators has handed over the job to Neeraj Kumar. I’ve had a word with him today as well and he stated that his investigation is still on, following which he’ll send a report,” Shukla said on the sidelines of an IPL-related press meet in Mumbai.
“I want to clarify that the BCCI is not interested in his personal affairs. We’re only concerned about the bit that comes under the ambit of the anti-corruption unit,” he further added.
Alishba, the woman who is said to have passed on the money to Mohammed Shami in Dubai, also came out with her stand wherein she stated that a meeting between the two had indeed taken place but denied handing over any money to India’s premier Test pacer.
