- As Indian Premier League 11 approaches, all IPL teams are overhauling their preparations
- Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR 2018) held their first practice session for IPL 2018 on Monday, which was missed by KKR captain Dinesh Karthik & KKR Coach Jacques Kallis
- As it was a light natured practice session, only 11 players were present, which included KKR 2018 vice-captain Robin Uthappa
As Indian Premier League 11 aka IPL 2018 approaches, the IPL 2018 teams are overhauling their practice sessions in a bid to give the strongest start possible to the IPL 2018 campaign. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are doing no different, as they held their first practice session on Monday (19 March). However, the first practice session for KKR 2018 took place in the absence of two of the most important KKR 2018 personalities, i.e. KKR Coach Jacques Kallis and KKR Captain Dinesh Karthik.
Kolkata Knight Riders had a crucial question on their minds while entering Indian Premier League 11, and it was regarding who to make the KKR Captain for IPL 2018. The previous KKR Captain Gautam Gambhir had moved on to Delhi Daredevils at the IPL 2018 auction, and KKR 2018 had bought Dinesh Karthik for a whopping INR 7.8 crore. Dinesh Karthik was made the KKR captain as the Team India veteran has amassed a great deal of cricketing experience, playing under various captains and picking up tricks from them.
Dinesh Karthik was announced KKR captain for IPL 2018 recently
And this leadership ability of Dinesh Karthik, which the Kolkata Knight Riders are hoping to capitalize on in Indian Premier League 11, came to the surface when in the recently-concluded Nidahas Trophy 2018 Final between India and Bangladesh, Dinesh Karthik scored a breath-taking 8-ball 28-run knock to drag India out of a seemingly imminent defeat, which was materialised by a last-ball six by the KKR captain. Kolkata Knight Riders must be so proud of having made Karthik the KKR captain.
KKR Coach Jacques Kallis to join KKR 2018 practice soon, along with KKR captain
Both the integral units of KKR 2018, Jacques Kallis who is the KKR coach for Indian Premier League 11, and Dinesh Karthik, the KKR captain for Indian Premier League 11, are expected to join the KKR 2018 squad later this month, as Kolkata Knight Riders opted to begin their pre-season training with light warm-up sessions.
As reported by First Post, there was no net session in KKR 2018 first practice for Indian Premier League 11, as out of the whole squad, only a total of 11 players, including vice-captain Robin Uthappa, trained on the first day of the camp at the Jadavpur University second campus ground in the Salt Lake City.
The players included U-19 World Cup winning duo of Shubman Gill and Kamlesh Nagarkoti, veteran pacer R Vinay Kumar, Ishank Jaggi and West Indies recruit Javon Searles along with trainer Adrian Le Roux.
Two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders begin their campaign at home against Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore on 8th April.
