Gautam Gambhir reveals his plans for Chris Morris in IPL 2018

  • Gautam Gambhir wants to use Chris Morris higher up the batting order
  • Gautam Gambhir has compared Morris with KKR’s Andre Russell
  • High hopes are there from Delhi Daredevils in the IPL 2018

Gautam Gambhir will take over the captaincy at Delhi Daredevils in the IPL 2018 and he already has big plans for the Delhi Daredevils all-rounder Chris Morris. Gautam Gambhir reckons Morris has not been used properly by the Delhi Daredevils management despite his strong batting abilities.

Gambhir compared Morris with Russell

Gautam Gambhir was a successful 2-time IPL winner with Kolkata Knight Riders and one of his strongest assets was Andre Russell who like Chris Morris is an explosive all-rounder. Gambhir finds similarities between Russell and Morris and believes that Chris Morris is a better and sharper bowler than Russell but the West Indian has the edge when it comes to batting.

Gambhir is keen to use Chris Morris better than his previous stints with Delhi Daredevils and he even hinted at sending him up the order in matches which he sees fit. Gambhir said: “Morris is a quality all-rounder and a better and much quicker bowler than Andre Russell. Russell is a little bit of a better batsman, he can change the game more consistently with the bat. But with Morris, I felt he has batted lower than he should have. He hasn’t had enough opportunity.

Speaking on Chris Morris’ batting position, Gambhir continued: “Delhi has played him at number 6-7, which is lower than where he should be batting at because he’s a proper batsman. Moreover, he can also bowl in the powerplay and in the last 4 overs.”

High hopes from Delhi Daredevils at IPL 2018

Delhi Daredevils have always managed to look good on paper before the start of an Indian Premier League (IPL) season, however, when the tournament commences we see them deflated and often finish last of the IPL standings. However, IPL 2018 could finally see Delhi Daredevils fulfill their potential.

In Gautam Gambhir, Delhi finally have a worth IPL captain with past pedigree in the competition, and they have done exceedingly well at the IPL 2018 Auction. Getting Colin Munro, Trent Boult, Glenn Maxwell, Prithvi Shaw has boosted their confidence with Chris Morris, Kagiso Rabada, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer continuing to play for Delhi Daredevils.
