It has been confirmed that there will be soon a day night Test match in India, as the Cricket West Indies (CWI) has agreed to the BCCI’s request to play a day night Test match in India, later in this year. It was recently reported that BCCI was mulling to host a day night Test in India, and with the confirmation by CWI, it seems that India day night Test against Windies could see a resurgence of Test cricket, which has been widely accepted in South Africa and Australia. The India vs Windies day night Test in India will be hosted by Hyderabad and Rajkot, as mentioned in Team India’s home series itinerary.
CWI agree to BCCI’s request of playing India vs Windies day night Test in India, request for warm up
Replying to a letter from the BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary regarding the India vs Windies day night Test match in India, the CWI chief Dave Cameron said, as reported by the Indian Express, “As per our discussions we would gladly agree to a day/night Test Match being the first one. Additionally, we would require the warm up game to be under lights as well. Thanks much and look forward to finalizing the schedule.”
Earlier, the BCCI acting secretary had asked for CWI chief Dave Cameron’s views, on playing a day night Test in India, saying, “This is with regard to our onward conversation on the subject of day-night test match between the visiting West Indies team and hosts India. As you know our respective national teams play two test matches this coming season. Kindly let us know of your views on the subject.”
India vs Windies Day night Test match in India subject to approval by Committee of Administrators
The India vs Windies day night Test in India would be the first ever day night Test for both the cricket playing nations. However, the India vs Windies day night Test is subject to approval by the Committee of Administrators (CoA). A BCCI official told The Sunday Express, “If the approval comes, then Rajkot is likely to have the first day/night Test.”
Hyderabad and Rajkot to host India vs Windies day night Test match
During its meeting on Saturday (17 March), BCCI’s Programme and Fixtures Committee finalised Rajkot and Hyderabad as the venues for the two India vs Windies day night Test match in India, in October. India vs Windies series will also have five ODI matches being played at five different venues; Mumbai, Guwahati, Kochi, Indore and Pune; while Kolkata, Chennai and Kanpur have been selected for three T20Is.
India vs Australia to be hosted in Delhi
While the historic one-off Test cricket match between India and Afghanistan in June 2018 will precede the India vs Windies day night Test, the Men in Blue will leave for India vs Australia series after completing their assignments against the Caribbeans. Following that, the Aussies will tour India for five ODIs and two T20 Internationals in February-March of 2019. The venues for Mohali, Hyderabad, nagpur, Delhi and Ranchi will host the India vs Australia ODI series, followed by India vs Australia T20 International series in Bangalore and Vizag.
