The eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will start from April 7, with the opening ceremony scheduled to be held at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai – home of the defending IPL champions Mumbai Indians. After a high octane curtain raiser between Mumbai and Chennai, there will be a double header (Kings XI Punjab vs Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers Bangalore) on Sunday (April 8). IPL 2018 Venue Details

The IPL 2018 Schedule with Venue details includes iconic grounds like the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi, M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore but the IPL 2018 Final Match Venue has already been announced as Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, with IPL 2018 playoffs venue also been zeroed in as Pune’s Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium. The famous stadium has never been used as the IPL Final Venue in the past.

1. Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai – One of India’s most famous cricket stadiums, the Wankhede has been the host of some high quality cricket games in the past and has a capacity to seat more more than 33,000 people at a time. The most notable among the matches played here is the 2011 ODI World Cup final which India went on to win.

2. Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi – Located at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg in the heart of New Delhi, the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium was established way back in 1883and is the second oldest international cricket stadium still functional in India, after the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The ground is known for Anil Kumble’s 10 wickets in an innings against Pakistan and Sachin Tendulkar’s 35th test ton to overcome Sunil Gavaskar to become the batsman with the most international Test centuries.

3. Eden Gardens, Kolkata – Established in the year 1864, the iconic Eden Gardens is the oldest functional cricket ground in the country and is the home of Bengal cricket team. The stadium has a capacity of 66,000 and became the second stadium in history to host a World Cup final in 1987. The stadium also holds the record for hosting most number of international cricket matches in India.

4. M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai – Fondly known as the Chepauk stadium, Tamil Nadu’s home stadium is named after M. A, Chidambaram, former President of BCCI. In the past, it was also known as Madras Cricket Club Ground. The stadium hosted the first ever Ranji Trophy match in 1936 and Indian cricket team’s first ever test victory in 1952 against England. The 1986 India-Australia match held at Chepauk was only the second ever Tied Test in the history of the game.

5. M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore – The home of Royal Challengers Bangalore, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is owned by the Government of Karnataka and is flanked by by the picturesque Cubbon Park, Queen’s Road and uptown MG Road on either side. The four decade old stadium was formerly known as the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) stadium and was later rechristened in a tribute to M. Chinnaswamy, who had served the KSCA for four decades and was also the BCCI president between 1977 and 1980.

6. Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali – Located near the picturesque city of Chandigarh, the PCA Stadium in Mohali is one of the newer Test venues in India and has an official capacity of 26,950 spectators. The famous India vs Pakistan semi-final of the 2011 ODI World Cup was hosted at the venue.

7. Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore – Formerly known as the Maharani Usharaje Trust Cricket Ground, in 2010 the stadium was renamed after the Holkar dynasty of the Marathas that ruled Indore. It has a seating capacity of around 30,000 spectators and was witness to Virender Sehwag’s mammoth knock of 219 runs, which is the third highest ODI score in history.

8. Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad – The stadium is the principal cricket stadium in Hyderabad, Telangana and is the home ground of the Hyderabad Cricket Association. Located in Uppal, an eastern suburb of the city, the stadium has a capacity of 60,000 and extends across 16 acres of land.

9. Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur – Popularly known as the SMS stadium, Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh stadium was built during the reign of Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II. It is situated at one corner of the city’s famous Rambagh Circle and can seat 23,185 people at a time.

As stated earlier, the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai will be the IPL Final 2018 Venue as the honour of hosting the big IPL final is always given to defending champions, which in this case is Mumbai Indians. Wankhede is also the stadium where India famously won the ODI World Cup in 2011.

IPL 2018 Playoffs Venue

Talking about the IPL 2018 playoffs venue, as per the IPL 2018 Schedule with Venue details released by the BCCI, other than being the IPL final venue, the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai will also host the first IPL 2018 Qualifier. Venue for Qualifier 2 and the Eliminator is yet to be decided.
