IPL 2018: KKR clear Andre Russell injury fears as West Indies star returns to training

  • Andre Russell IPL 2018 stint looks out of danger as the Windies cricketer returned to training a couple weeks after picking up an injury
  • Andre Russell injury had thrown caution to the IPL 2018 franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who had retained the Windies all-rounder for INR 8.5 crore
  • Andre Russell KKR bond seemed to be loosening, but is back in order after KKR uploaded a video on their Twitter of the 29-year-old sweating it out in training

Windies all-rounder star cricketer Andre Russell had suffered a hamstring injury in the ongoing Pakistan Super League 2018 season on 3rd March, following which he was ruled out of PSL. Following the injury, Andre Russell IPL 2018 stint had gone into doubt, and the Andre Russell KKR bond was looking to loosen. However, in a recent turn of events, Russell, who retained by KKR for INR 8.5 crore, has seemingly recovered from his injury and looks good to bounce back to business, with the IPL 2018 season set to kick off on 7th April.

Andre Russell injury was a concern for KKR

In the ongoing Pakistan Super League’s third season (PSL 2018), Russell had strained his hamstring on 3rd March while playing for Islamabad United against Karachi Kings, and was ruled out of the league on 7th March, as it was concluded that the Windies star cricketer was in no shape to continue. This move had obviously perturbed the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as Andre Russell injury could have thrown KKR’s money and prospects to win the IPL 2018 title to waste. An Islamabad United official had told Geo.tv,

“Russell was injured during the game against Karachi Kings and MRI results were not encouraging. He will not take any further part in the tournament.”

Andre Russell KKR bond will stay strong in IPL 2018

It turned out that Andre Russell injury was not a concern anymore for KKR, as the IPL 2018 team posted a video on their official Twitter account, of Andre Russell IPL 2018 prospects taking form again. In the video, the 29-year-old was seen working out hard during a training camp for KKR. Kolkata Knight Riders said goodbye to Andre Russell injury issues, and posted the video, while writing,

“Gonna fly now! The Mighty West Indian returns to training & is raring to don the Purple and Gold of KKR in VIVO IPL 2018.”

Had Russell’s injury chapter persisted, it could have ended in being a major concern for Andre Russell IPL 2018 franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders, as the team’s another foreign signing, Chris Lynn, is going through a shoulder injury, one that has put his IPL 2018 stint for KKR in doubt. However, with Russell getting back in shape, all seems good for the Shahrukh Khan-owned team in IPL 2018.
