  • I-League outshines Indian Super League (ISL) as Churchill Brothers FC defeated Delhi Dynamos FC and Gokulam Kerala FC defeated Northeast United FC in the Hero Super Cup 2018 qualifiers on 16 March
  • Star of the night was Henry Kisekka, who scored two goals to take his team, Gokulam FC, past a struggling Northeast United FC 2-0

It was quite a night for the I-League teams after Churchill Brothers defeated Delhi Dynamos and Gokulam Kerala FC defeated Northeast United to ensure both teams are through to the next round of India Super Cup 2018 qualifiers. Henry Kisekka was the start for Gokulam as he scored a brace to help Gokulam Kerala FC beat Northeast 2-0 at Odisha’s Kalinga Stadium.

Kisekka scored in both halves to ensure Northeast United were constantly pegged back after Gokulam kept on creating chances after chances and were unlucky to score only 2 goals in the match. Kisseka scored both his goals from Arjun Jayaraj’s assists. Kisekka’s goals were clinical and worthy of winning the match for his team.

Following his goals and match-winning display, supercup.in caught up with the match winner where he explained the pressure of playing for the I-League sides against ISL teams and how they would hope play when Gokulam play in the final round of India Super Cup 2018.

Speaking about Gokulam’s win in the India Super Cup 2018 qualifiers against Northeast United, Kisekka said: “Yes, it was a good game for us as a team and we always work together. It is a great feeling right now. Now we have the I-League and the Hero ISL teams so it is a good month for the young boys and the whole team as well.”

Kisseka has been inconsistent this season for Gokulam and was delighted to have a match-winning impact for his team. Kisekka said: “Obviously, it is very satisfying because when you go to the field and you feel like you’re doing your job, it is satisfying and always motivates you to do more.”

Pressure on I-League teams at the India Super Cup 2018

Prior to the India Super Cup 2018 qualifiers, I-League sides were given little chances of qualification, however, I-league sides managed to beat ISL teams in both games of Day 1 of India Super Cup 2018 qualifiers and Kisekka believes, there will be even more pressure on I-League teams when they reach the final round of the India Super Cup 2018.

Kisekka said: “No. When we entered today’s game we came as the underdogs, so we always play like we have nothing to lose. When you come like you have no pressure, that always makes your team dangerous against the opponent.”
