ATK did not let their poor ISL 2017-18 season affect their Hero Super Cup 2018 campaign after registering a stunning 4-1 win over Chennai City FC with goals from Hitesh Sharma, Zequinha, Ashutosh Mehta, and their captain and coach for the competition Robbie Keane. Speaking of Hitesh Sharma, he scored a stunning goal to open the scoring for ATK in their Hero Super Cup 2018 qualifier game against Chennai City FC which left all his teammates including Robbie Keane lost for words. Hitesh struck a sweet half-volley shot from almost 50-60 yards out and gave Chennai City FC goalkeeper Taufiq no chance of keeping his shot out.
Hitesh takes ATK to the Hero Super Cup 2018
Hitesh Sharma and his team ATK will now progress to the main round of Hero Super Cup 2018 where 12 teams comprising from ISL and I-League will battle to win the prestigious Hero Super Cup 2018 title. Hitesh Sharma’s goal in the 20th minute allowed ATK to settle down and dominate the 1st half and the trend continued in the 2nd half with 2 goals in space of 20 minutes gave ATK a comfortable lead and allowed them to progress to the pre-quarterfinal round of Hero Super Cup 2018 where they would take on FC Goa.
Hitesh vows to learn from Robbie Keane
Hitesh Sharma credited his recent form to ATK’s captain and coach Robbie Keane as he has been one of the best strikers in modern time and seeing his movements on the pitch has helped Hitesh to improve his game as well. Hitesh vows to keep learning from Robbie Keane while his time with ATK and hopes to become an even better player in coming seasons.
Speaking with supercup.in after the game, Hitesh said: “Robbie (Keane) is very good. He’s helping us as a player and as a coach. The morale is good. There are no negative thoughts in the team, but we need to keep winning. I play just behind the striker and with a striker like Robbie in the side, there’s a lot to learn. That’s my goal.”
Hitesh Sharma believes that the team morale in the ATK camo is pretty good at the moment where they have left their ISL season woes behind and are focused on enjoying a successful Hero Super Cup 2018 which begins on 31 March.
