With the outbreak and popularity of domestic Twenty20 leagues across the globe, an Indian firm has come up with a brand new idea of playing the T20 format in a playing model, which will effectively be an amalgamation of the Test and T10 formats. 911 Marketing and Events Pvt Ltd, the proposing company, has floated the concept of a World Masters League, which will be played between World XI and Asia XI.
A proposed World Masters League in T10 format
The organisers have suggested that the World Masters League be played in the T10 format and is likely to feature recently-retired cricketers from every prominent member nation. The company’s vision, which has been shared with a few potential stakeholders, states that the proposed games will be carried out in T10 format – but like a Test match with two innings per side.
League to feature World XI and Asia XI
911 Marketing and Events Pvt Ltd are hoping to have two teams in the inaugural edition of the league – World XI and Asia XI. Players who are likely to be approached to form the squad for both teams might include heavyweight names like Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan, Sourav Ganguly, Kumar Sangakkara, Shahid Afridi, Mahela Jayawardene (for Asia XI) and Brett Lee, Ricky Ponting, Matthew Hayden, Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum (for World XI).
The organising company is apparently planning to host the first edition of the World Masters League in the UK later this year in June and July. Further tournaments are also being planned in North America in September-October, the UAE in December and in the following March-April in Australia.
911 Marketing and Events Pvt Ltd, the Indian firm which is a marketing firm based in Delhi. The company was also involved in the organisation of World Kabaddi League. They also claim to have worked with IPL franchises like Kings XI Punjab, Rajasthan Royals and Deccan Chargers, Indian Badminton League and Hockey India League on crucial areas like ground entertainment, venue branding and press conferences.
