Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal are the two excitingly new talents in Team India, the synergy of whom have led to the decimation of more than a few batting lineups of India’s leading cricketing opponents, especially in limited-overs cricket (one of the reasons why the duo went as hot-properties in IPL 2018 auction). India’s ‘chinaman’ bowler Kuldeep Yadav spoke about his deadly partnership with wrist-spinner Chahal, and said that the more the duo bowl together, the easier it gets to outsmart the opposition’s batsmen.

Kuldeep Yadav was snatched away from RCB by KKR in IPL 2018 for INR 5.8 crore

Having returned from a successful tour of South Africa, Kuldeep Yadav is now gearing up for the eleventh season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2018). The 23-year-old spinner has displayed red-hot form in recent cricketing ordeals, which is why he was grabbed with both hands at the IPL 2018 auction by his old Indian Premier League franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), for a whopping INR 5.8 crore, snatching him away from the Royal Challengers Bangalore via the RTM tool.

On Thursday (8 March), Sportstar spoke with Kuldeep Yadav him to know about his plans for the upcoming IPL 2018 season. Yadav’s excellent bowling partnership with Yuzvendra Chahal is also one of the key issues that the ‘chinaman’ was asked to decode.

Kuldeep Yadav had outshined in India’s very-recent tour to South Africa, in which he picked 17 wickets in just six ODIs. Speaking about the key factors that made him a lethal weapon against the South African batting line-up, which included AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis, Hashim Amla, among others, Yadav said,

“I stuck to basics and bowled my normal deliveries. As an individual, it was a great experience to perform in South Africa. It is a good feeling if you perform and the team wins.”

Kuldeep Yadav credits Team India support staff for “protecting every player”.

Speaking about his debut for Team India, Kuldeep Yadav said that the credit had to be given to the Team India’s support staff, which had done a great job nourishing young cricketers like Kuldeep himself,

“The support staff and the captain should be credited for protecting every player. They gave us enough chances to prove ourselves. 2017 was my best year. I got whatever I thought I would and I picked up wickets on every surface.”

“I hope to continue the process in 2018. I want to improve as a cricketer, as well as a human being. I want to live with everyone and play as a team.”

Yuzvendra Chahal & Kuldeep Yadav back each other

Kuldeep Yadav enjoys a great chemistry with fellow-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, as the duo have managed to get the best out of each other, discussing plans constantly, and backing each other without any sense of competition and pressure. As reported by the Hindu, Yadav said,

“I have played a lot of cricket with Chahal. In limited-overs cricket, it is important to bowl in partnerships. The middle overs are crucial. Our plan has always been to plot breakthroughs. The best part is that we back each other. There is no pressure or any sense of competition.”

The more Yadav and Chahal bowl together, the easier it gets for the duo.

“We keep talking all the time. We talk about field placements, how to read a particular batsman’s mind and place a fielder for him at a suitable position. These conversations happen during matches as well as at the nets. The more we bowl in partnership, it gets easy.”

Kuldeep Yadav learnt the wrong ‘uns from Brad Hogg at KKR camp

Speaking about his most valuable trait as a bowler, Kuldeep Yadav said that he learnt to bowl the delivery that could baffle even the most veteran of batsmen, from the former Australia cricketer Brad Hogg, when the duo worked together at the Kolkata Knight Riders’ training camp in previous Indian Premier League edition. Kuldeep said,

“I was fortunate to have spent time with Brad Hogg (former Australia chinaman bowler) in the KKR camp in the initial years. He taught me the wrong ’uns and told me a lot about variations in this style and how it could be implemented.”
