- The COA led by Vinod Rai has submitted its 7th Status Report asking for the removal of 4 BCCI officials including IPL chief Rajiv Shukla.
- BCCI are unhappy with COA’s interference in cricketing matters are likely to challenge the recommendations given by The COA.
The Committee of Administrators (CoA) and BCCI continue to be on the opposing sides. The CoA led by Vinod Rai, has recommended the removal of 3 BCCI officials – CK Khanna (BCCI acting president), Amitabh Choudhary (BCCI acting secretary) and Anirudh Choudhary (BCCI treasurer) along with the IPL chief Rajiv Shukla, as all of them have outstayed their tenure, according to the Committee of Administrators (CoA).
The COA are citing the removal of these officials as BCCI’s constitutions where all of them have served their initial 3-year tenure and are yet to be officially renewed for their posts. The COA led by Vinod Rai has submitted their latest (7th) Status Report which also stressed on holding BCCI’s AGM (Annual General Meeting) which has not happened since 2016.
BCCI upset with Committee of Administrator’s interference, particularly Vinod Rai
The COA are keen to enforce the Justice Lodha panel recommendations and are not taking lightly to BCCI’s claims of overstepping their lines when it comes to dealing with cricketing matters. BCCI are not entirely happy with COA chief Vinod Rai dictating the Cricket officials of how they should tackle matters concerning the game.
A senior BCCI official said, as reported by Cricbuzz, “The CoA on one hand quotes the existing BCCI constitution for removal of the office-bearers but at the same time does not summon general body on policy matters.”
“Also, Rai started interfering in technical cricketing matters, which certainly wasn’t his domain. A question can be asked about how come, he was asking questions on cricketing issue where as the Supreme Court mandate was to implement Lodha Committee recommendations.”
BCCI are likely to challenge the recommendations laid out by The COA on the grounds COA not adhering to the standard protocol and keeping the officials in dark over the implementation of new policies. Despite the allegations being thrown left, right, and center we can expect this issue to dominate the headlines in coming few weeks especially with Indian Premier League (IPL) ready to kick off in less than a month’s time.
