As the eleventh season of the Indian Premier League is right around the corner, Kolkata Knight Riders named Dinesh Karthik the captain of their franchise for IPL 2018. Dinesh Karthik, who has served in the Indian team for more than a decade now, is well versed with the winning ways and can surely take on the challenge of continuing KKR’s good run. which was set in motion by now-Delhi Daredevils captain Gautam Gambhir.
Dinesh Karthik was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders at the IPL 2018 auction for INR 7.4 crore, and when the 32-year-old has been named the captain of the side, it seems that KKR had things planned beforehand.
Dinesh Karthik ready to deliver right results for KKR

The KKR captaincy role for Dinesh Karthik in IPL 2018 couldn’t have come at a better time, as it boosts the Indian cricketing veteran’s chances to make the 2019 World Cup India squad to a new high. It is a great window for Karthik to display excellent leadership and cricket, as the Indian team’s middle-order could use some able batting hands.
Speaking about whether KKR’s captaincy boosts his chances for the 2019 World Cup, Dinesh Karthik said,
“It’s a better question put to them (Indian team management). At this point of time, I’m happy where I am, and I’m looking forward to leading this franchise and to a greater glory in the near future.”
The newly-appointed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain also spoke about being a wicketkeeper-batsman in the Indian team, especially with MS Dhoni around (who is touted as one of the best wicket-keepers in world cricket currently). Karthik said,
“I’ve kind of realised that it’s important that I constantly try and keep upping my batting, so that I can find a place in the side (Indian team) as a pure batsman. I’ve always been on a journey to try to be the best batsman that I can be, and it has helped me as a person as well. I’m totally happy where I am in terms of my cricket.”
Dinesh Karthik boasts of skilled T20 foreigners and untapped youngsters in Kolkata Knight Riders
Dinesh Karthik was asked to comment on the best possible XI that he would now look to shape at the Kolkata Knight Riders, and if there was a ‘lack of depth’ in the team, that could force Karthik to take up more responsibility in IPL 2018.
“It’s hard to say about a lack of depth, but we have very skilled T20 players in our foreigners, and the youngsters are someone who are untapped. So, we are really looking forward to what they can come up with. But having said that, we have some players who have played all 10 years of IPL, which is a good place to be in.”
“There’s a really good mix of youth and experience and I’m really looking forward to joining them.”
