MSK Prasad talks with Mayank Agarwal to explain why he was not selected

A lot of eyebrows were raised when Mayank Agarwal was not picked for India’s Nidahas Trophy squad after the decision was made to rest several senior members. Mayank seemed like an obvious selection after scoring 2,141 runs in the domestic circuit this season along with 8 centuries, however, selection committee decided that Mayank is still in the queue and will have to wait for his chance.

Chief Selector for Indian national team MSK Prasad believes Mayank Agarwal has definitely put him in the mix to play for India and according to Prasad that time is not far when Mayank Agarwal finally gets his opportunity to play for the national side.

MSK Prasad explains Mayank Agarwal why he wasn’t selected for the Nidahas Trophy

Prasad revealed that he had a one-on-one chat with Mayank Agarwal, and explained to the opening batsman about how well he is doing at the moment and why was he not selected for the Nidahas Trophy. Prasad congratulated Mayank for his outstanding domestic performances and told him that now he is the queue like other players and will soon get his chance.

Prasad said: “We have followed a pattern in our selection process. Each and every national contender is in the queue and we don’t believe that anyone can jump the queue. Mayank is a wonderful kid and he completely understood what I explained to him. He told me ‘Sir, you are spot on and ‘I am not in a hurry at all’.”

MSK Prasad also revisited on India’s successful tour of South Africa where a lot of credit was given to his selection committed for making bold decisions. Jasprit Bumrah’s inclusion in the test side was a surprise and so was Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal’s inclusion in the ODI team at the expense of more experienced Ravi Ashwin and Ravi Jadeja.

Bumrah proved to be India’s wildcard in the test series where he constantly troubled the South African top order while Kuldeep and Chahal ended up picking 33 wickets in the ODI series and winning the series 5-1 for their team. MSK Prasad believes this is India’s finest team in recent history and under Virat Kohli, we can expect a consistent run of victories away from home which has been a letdown for Team India in the past.
