IPL 2018: Axar Patel looking forward to play with Ravichandran Ashwin at KXIP

Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) recently announced that veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will be leading at the IPL 2018. Ashwin was snapped by Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) after Chennai Super Kings let their former star leave the franchise and could not complete a happy reunion. Chennai’s (CSK) loss turned out to be Punjab’s (KXIP) gain and while all the fans and KXIP players are excited with Ashwin’s presence in the dressing room, Axar Patel seems to be the happiest of the lot.

The left -arm spinner is happy to be sharing the dugout at KXIP with Ravichandran Ashwin and believes that having Ashwin in the team is an advantage and he would look to learn things from the off-spinner all the time.

Axar spoke exclusively with kxip.in and said: “I know Ashwin since I made my debut for India. I think this familiarity I have with him is a huge advantage.

Axar sees a strong partnership with Ashwin

Axar Patel is delighted to have  Ravichandran Ashwin as his new captain as both complements each other’s bowling style well. While Ashwin is a wicket-taking bowler Axar likes to keep the runs down and build pressure from one end which Axar thinks will help them create a strong partnership in the IPL 2018.

Axar said: “I know that Ashwin is an attacking bowler. His role is to pick wickets, and my role is generally to contain the flow of runs and build pressure from one end. So, it will make for a good partnership. We have done that for India too in the past, and will look to continue the same for KXIP in the coming season.”

“Ashwin is really experienced and I am glad that he has now become the captain. I think if a bowler is the captain it is a much better option because a bowler knows what the batsman is thinking and can make changes according to the situation the game is in.
