Pakistan and Karachi Kings’ pace spearhead Mohammad Amir’s Pakistan Super League (PSL 2018) stint is as good as over after the left-arm fast bowler suffered an injury setback during the course of his two-over spell on Sunday (February 25) while bowling against the Peshawar Zalmis in his team’s second match of PSL 2018.
Mohammad Amir’s PSL 2018 campaign for Karachi Kings ends abruptly
The 25-year-old pacer was in the middle of a ferocious spell of swing bowling when he was struck by an unprecedented injury, getting forced to walk off the field. On a lively pitch, Mohammad Amir had already snared up the crucial wickets of Tamim Iqbal and Kamran Akmal (Peshawar Zalmi’s openers) when he appeared in some discomfort, a strain which ultimately ended his participation in the PSL 2018 match, and is likely to bring a similar consequence with regard to his future involvement in the tournament for the Karachi Kings.
Reflecting on Amir’s injury, Karachi Kings captain Imad Wasim said, “It is a major blow for our team to lose such a world class player. At the moment it is pretty hard to tell how bad the injury is. We are assessing and will update soon.”
Imad also explained his team’s plans of roping in a replacement for Amir if he is indeed forced to miss the rest of the PSL 2018 season this year. “We have good players sitting in the dugout, it would not be a big problem for us. We have had planned to replace Amir and Mills during the tournament,” he stated.
Mohammad Amir replaced by Usman Khan
In their last outing in the PSL 2018 against Lahore Qalandars on Monday (February 26), Karachi Kings replaced Mohammad Amir with the young Usman Khan Shinwari, another left-arm fast bowler, who gave a good account of himself in his season debut, picking up three important wickets in the match.
Coached by Pakistan’s head coach Mickey Arthur, Karachi Kings have started the current PSL 2018 season with a bang, winning three out of their opening three fixtures. This injury to Mohammad Amir has the potential to disrupt their season and the Kings will be hoping that they can cope without the services of their pace spearhead and make their way to the playoffs this season.
