Team India lost the 2nd T20I against South Africa, as the home team chased the total of 188 runs set by India, in a stunning fashion in Centurion and tied the 3-match series 1-1. Although South African fans were floored by the match-winning performance by the team and specially JP Duminy and Heinrich Klaasen, India cricketing legend Sourav Ganguly was impressed by MS Dhoni’s 28-ball 52-run knock, which restored the balance that every Indian cricket fan was looking forward to.
Sourav Ganguly’s adulation for MS Dhoni is not without reason
After winning the ODI series 4-1, and the 1st T20I in an overhauling manner, India started off slow in the 2nd T20I, as Rohit Sharma (0), Shikhar Dhawan (24), Suresh Raina (30) and Virat Kohli (1) lost their crucial wickets in quick succession.
It was then, that India saw the long-lost power-hitter step on to the crease, with India needing every bit of run that they could gather. Along with Manish Pandey (79*), MS Dhoni (52*) blasted off the South Africa bowlers, taking India’s total from a projected low to an unpredicted hight.
Even Virat Kohli had admitted after the match was over in Centurion that when the Indian openers had returned to the pavilion, India’s projected score looked around 170s. However, credit to MS Dhoni’s golden performance where he scored 52 runs in 28 balls, with a strike rate of 185+, India’s total score was extended to 188, and it brought a wide smile on every Indian fan, including the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), Sourav Ganguly.
If given similar chances, MS Dhoni will be very dangerous in 3rd T20I
To watch India’s former captain cool and fiery batsman return in form, Sourav Ganguly thrilled and assured in equal measure, that Dhoni was going to be very, very dangerous in coming future. Speaking to India Today, Ganguly said that Dhoni was sure to storm the bowlers, he just needed to be given more balls.
“MS Dhoni was brilliant and batted superbly. I have always said he needs deliveries under his belt to play well and once again he showed it. Hopefully, he will get a few more deliveries and he will be very, very dangerous.”
