Liverpool – 8

Liverpool might be going through somewhat of a trophy drought currently but there is no denying the fact that the Merseyside club is among the most successful clubs in English football history. The Jurgen Klopp managed club has not only won 18 first division titles but also holds the record for winning most League Cup titles, i.e., eight. Their 1st win came back in 1980-1981 when defeated West Ham United 2-1 at Villa Park and their last title came in the 2011-2012 season when they defeated Cardiff City on Penalties. Apart from winning 8 titles, Liverpool have also finished as runner-ups on 4 different occasions.

Manchester United – 5

Not probably, Manchester United are the most successful club in English football history. They have 20 first division titles and 5 League Cup titles, i.e the joint 2nd most league cup titles. However, they had to wait sometime before getting their first, which came in the 1991-1992 season when they defeated Nottingham Forest 1-0 at the old Wembley Stadium.

Man United are the current defending Champions of the League Cup following their impressive 3-2 win against Southampton last year. Like their arch-rivals Liverpool, the Red Devils have also finished up as runner-ups on 4 occasions.

Aston Villa – 5

Aston Villa have had a very successful past but the club is currently sitting in the Champions, the second level of English football. The Claret and Blue Army have the joint 2nd most League Cup titles (5) in their Premier League history with the most recent one being in 1996 when they defeated Leeds United 3-0. Since then they have made only one appearance in the final which was back in 2010 against Manchester United, which they lost 2-1.

Aston Villa also have the rare honour of being the first club to lift the League Cup title back in 1961.

Chelsea – 5

Just like Manchester United, Chelsea have had a much better run in the League Cup since the turn of the century. The London club had just won 2 EFL Cups before then in 1965 and 1998. However, in the past 13 seasons, the Blues have made it to the final on 4 occasions, in which they have lost just one final back in 2007-2008 season when Tottenham defeated them 2-1 in extra-time.

To bag the 2nd most league cup titles, Chelsea did take the perfect revenge against Spurs as they defeated them in the 2014-2015 League Cup Final by the scoreline of 2-0. In all the Antonio Conte managed club has made 7 appearances in the final of this knock-out tournament.

Tottenham Hotspur – 4

Unlike Manchester United and Chelsea, Tottenham hasn’t enjoyed the same success in the League Cup finals since the turn of the century. The North London club have won the 3rd most league cup titles (4) till now, with the first one being in the 1970-1971 season when they defeated Aston Villa 2-0. However, since 2000, they have made to the final on 4 occasions but have won just once, which was back in 2008.

Since losing the final back in 2015 to Chelsea, Tottenham have been knocked out in the 3rd and 4th round respectively over the past 2 seasons.
