India all rounder Yusuf Pathan has been reportedly dropped from the Baroda team which is scheduled to play against Saurashtra in the quarterfinals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Thursday (February 22). Yusuf Pathan will be replaced by Akshay Brahmbhatt in the tournament.
Poor performance main reason behind exclusion of Yusuf Pathan from Baroda
A Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) member said, as reported by Cricbuzz,
“Yusuf played six matches in the tournament but didn’t perform well. So, it was decided to drop him and give chance to another player. His poor performance is the only reason behind leaving him out.”
However, the other three selectors on the panel had a word with the Baroda coach, and concluded that the all-rounder and former Team India star should be dropped for the Vijay Hazare quarterfinals against Saurashtra.
Earlier, Yusuf wasn’t even considered in the team of probables for the Baroda squad, but his name was included during the selection of the final 15 only after he passed the fitness test.
Yusuf Pathan set to feature in Dhaka Premier League
The Baroda cricketer will travel to Dhaka on 22nd February to feature in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) for a second time, after getting a cold shoulder from his domestic cricket team.
Although BCCI is usually uptight about letting the Indian cricketers go to foreign major T20 leagues, the body has allowed a handful of cricketers to participate in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), such as Yusuf Pathan, Unmukt Chand, Manoj Tiwary, and Parvez Rasool.
Yusuf Pathan, who has previously featured in the DPL in 2016, will represent the Abahani Limited in the T20 tournament. Pathan was also picked in the 2018 Indian Premier League auctions by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 1.9 crore, ending the veteran’s run with KKR which had been strong so far.
