New Zealand spinner Mitchell Santner, who made his debut for his national team in 2015, will be making IPL debut this year when he takes the field for the returning Chennai Super Kings after CSK bought the Kiwi for INR 50 lakh in IPL 2018 auction. The 26-year-old is excited to be playing along with some of the most experienced Indian players in the shape of MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja.
Santner happy to not be bowling against MS Dhoni
However, one thing that pleased him most about being picked up by CSK was the fact that Santner will only be bowling to the destructive Dhoni in the nets and not against him in a match. MS Dhoni will again be donning the captain’s hat for the CSK franchise after taking them to the Championship title already 2 times.
Speaking about his expectations for the 11th season of the Indian Premier League, Santner said, as reported by News 18, “I’m happy I’ll be bowling to (MS) Dhoni in the nets rather than in a match like I have been.”
“I’m definitely looking forward to joining the culture at CSK, talking to and playing alongside experienced players such as skipper Dhoni, (Suresh) Raina and (Ravindra) Jadeja in a great team environment.”
“I’m very excited to be a part of this year’s IPL and looking forward to joining the Chennai family. The IPL is probably the biggest T20 competition in the world, so I am excited to showcase my skills on the big stage and ultimately help CSK win games and ideally the championship,” he further added.
Santner was part of the New Zealand team that toured India late last year for an ODI and T20 series. His performance was much appreciated and he climbed on top of the ICC T20 Bowlers ranking this January. Chennai Super Kings will start their IPL campaign against Mumbai Indians on 7th April at the Wankhede Stadium.
