Afghanistan’s 16-year-old leg-spinner, Mujeeb Zadran, became a cricket legend and the youngest bowler in world cricket to claim five wickets in a one-day international (ODI), when he stirred the Afghanistan team, helping them attain a 10-wicket triumph over Zimbabwe in their 4th ODI on Friday (16 February). Zadran also overtook legendary Pakistan cricketer Waqar Younis as the youngest cricketer to claim a 5-wicket haul.

The teenager Mujeeb Zadran finished with figures – 5/50 – as the Zimbabwe cricket team were bowled out for a dismal score of 134 runs in 34 overs. After making sure that Zimbabwe does not get to play even the full 50-over quota, Afghanistan cricket team then cruised to a thrilling victory, before even reaching the half quota of the 50 overs, in the 22nd over. On top of it, Afghanistan did not lose a single wicket in achieving the target score, as Afghanistan openers – Mohammad Shahzad (75*) and Ihsanullah (51*) – came on to the crease and left only when the job was done.
Mujeeb Zadran overtakes legendary Waqar Younis
Mujeeb Zadran’s 5-wicket haul performance allowed the 16-year-old to surpass former Pakistan star cricketer Waqar Younis as the youngest bowler to claim a five-wicket haul in a limited-overs international cricket fixture. Waqar Younis was just 18 years and 164 days old when he achieved a five-wicket haul for the first time, but was overtaken by Afghanistan prodigy Mujeeb Zadran, who did it in 16 years.
As Zimbabwe was bowled out by the Afghanistan cricket team, catalysed by Mujeeb Zadran’s 5-wicket haul, the only Zimbabwe batsman to stand his ground, was Craig Ervine, who scored an undefeated 54*.
Afghanistan batsman Mohammad Shahzad (WK) slammed 10 fours and three sixes in his 74-ball 75-run knock, while Ihsanullah Janat scored a 53-ball 51-run knock, which included six boundaries and two sixes.
The duo’s excellent batting couple with Zadran’s lethal mystery bowling, Afghanistan won the five-match ODI series 3-1 over Zimbabwe, with one match still remaining to be played on 19th February. (Check Scores at Cricbuzz)
