IPL 2018: Sam Billings wants to learn from MS Dhoni at CSK

Season 11 of the Indian Premier League is just around the corner and the players who have picked up through retention or in the recently held auction in Bengaluru are getting ready to take part in the 2 month long T20 carnival. English limited over specialist Sam Billings will be part of the Chennai Super Kings, and is excited to learn from MS Dhoni. The wicket-keeper batsman made his international debut against New Zealand in June 2015 and has since played 13 ODI’s and 16 T20 Internationals.

Sam Billings made his debut in the Indian Premier League with Delhi Daredevils where he spent the last two seasons. However, this year he was picked up by CSK for INR 1 crore. The 26-year-old is naturally delighted to be selected by one of the most successful IPL franchise of all time. But what he is most looking forward to his spending some quality time learning about the game and gaining some useful tips from the CSK captain MS Dhoni.

Sam Billings admires Dhoni’s impact on CSK

Looking forward to the 11th season of IPL (IPL 2018) with Chennai Super Kings, Sam Billings said, “I’m extremely excited to play in such a great side and learn a lot from all the experienced players that we have. I am very much looking forward to working with (MS) Dhoni, someone whom I have admired as a player for a long time as we play in similar roles (wicketkeeper-batsman). So looking forward to learning from him.”

During the last two years, Sam Billings made a handful of appearances for the Delhi Daredevils and looked pretty impressive. He is aware of the expectations that will come when he takes the field in CSK yellow at the Chidambaram Stadium. However, he is confident he can perform even under pressure and the weight of expectations that come with playing for such a big team.

“Ultimately there is pressure every time you walk to the crease representing anyone. It’s more exciting to be a part of this awesome franchise and play with and against the best players in the world. That is why we play the game, to be a part of groups like this and play on the world stage, so I just see it as a hugely exciting and fantastic opportunity to showcase what I can do,” he concluded.

Apart from MS Dhoni, Sam Billings will be under the watchful eyes of coach Stephen Fleming and batting coach Michael Hussey, who has joined the team for the 11th season of the Indian Premier League.

As bowling consultant to join the support staff that includes Stephen Fleming as coach, Michael Hussey as batting coach and Lakshmipathy Balaji as bowling coach. Delhi open their campaign against Kings XI Punjab at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi.
