There was a time in cricket when fours were a rarity, not a norm, however, the advent of T20 cricket has changed the landscape completely and the way the game is played now. Dot boundaries are considered gold dust in the 20 over format while conceding one or two boundaries per over the routine. Indian Premier League, in particular, has had more superstars from world than any other league and the consequence of that is that the fours have just multiplied with each passing IPL season. Ahead of IPL 2018, we look at 5 batsmen who hit most number of fours in IPL history, featuring Gautam Gambhir, Suresh Raina, David Warner, etc.
5 batsmen to hit most number of fours in IPL:
Gautam Gambhir – 483
An IPL legend, Gautam Gambhir has not played some historic knocks for team India but has also led his former team Kolkata Knight Riders to two IPL titles. The 36-year-old as scored 4132 runs till now in the IPL, which have included a massive 483 fours. After a successful spell with the KKR outfit, the opener will be seen leading out the Delhi Daredevils team after they purchased him the recently held auction in January 2018.
Suresh Raina – 402
Cricketing fans across this country were delighted to see Suresh Raina being called up for the upcoming T20 series against South Africa. The Chennai Super Kings player holds the record for scoring the most runs in IPL and making the most appearances. During the last 10 season, he has managed to hit 402 fours which have helped him achieve one hundred and 31 half-centuries. He was the second player to be retained by CSK for the 11th season after MS Dhoni.
David Warner – 401
The only foreigner to be represented on this list, David Warner has been prolific during his IPL career. He has won the orange cap twice till now and has managed to whack the bowlers for 401 fours. The Australian batsman has scored 3 centuries and 36 half-centuries in IPL. His superb performance with the bat and while leading the side led to Sunrisers Hyderabad retaining him for the upcoming seasons.
Shikhar Dhawan – 401
Both David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan will be appearing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 11th season of the IPL. The duo was fantastic in SRH’s title-winning 2016 season. Dhawan who has played over 120 IPL matches in his career has smashed 401 fours during that run, ironically same as his franchise captain Warner.
Virat Kohli – 382
The way Virat Kohli is going at the moment, it won’t be surprising to see him shatter some big records in the 11th season of the IPL. However, one record which might just out of his reach right now would be the batsman with maximum fours. However, that is not to say the Indian captain hasn’t been one of the most successful batsmen in IPL history. He has not only scored 4 brilliant centuries during the last 10 seasons but has also managed to hit 382 fours in that span of time. One can only imagine the price he would have garnered had his name gone to the auction, as RCB were smart enough to make the most bankable player in the world their first retention.
