Over the 10 successful seasons of the Indian Premier League, we have seen 30 players score a total of 47 centuries in IPL cricket. No prizes for guessing Chris Gayle leads the charts with 5 centuries to his name, but who are the others with most IPL centuries to their names. Ahead of the IPL 2018 season, we look at 5 players with most centuries in IPL history.
Most Centuries in Indian Premier League (Minimum 25 Inns)
1). Chris Gayle (5 IPL Centuries)
The man with most Indian Premier League centuries got a lucky break earlier this year when he became the last player to be signed at the IPL 2018 Auctions. Gayle’s ability to win matches on his own may be on a decline but he still is a dangerous T20 batsman as his records tell us.
Among Gayle’s 5 IPL centuries is his sensation innings of 175 which came off just 66 balls against the Pune Warriors back in 2013. All of Gayle’s 5 IPL hundreds have come for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) which will be a massive void for the RCB to fill as they decided to let the West Indian star go ahead of the IPL 2018.
2). Virat Kohli (4 IPL Centuries)
Speaking of the RCB, their captain and talisman Virat Kohli is second on the charts of most IPL centuries with 4 hundreds to his name. Stunningly enough, all of 4 Kohli’s centuries came in the same season of the Indian Premier League.
Kohli’s centuries have come against Gujarat Lions (2), Rising Pune Supergiants and the Kings XI Punjab. Kohli managed to score 3 centuries in the month of May 2016. RCB would hope to see Kohli back to his century-scoring form in the IPL 2018.
3T). David Warner (3 IPL Centuries)
David Warner scored 2 centuries for his previous IPL franchise Delhi Daredevils but the Australian opener has come of age since becoming the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad. Although he has scored just 1 century for the Sunrisers, Warner has led them to the IPL title in 2016.
2 of Warner’s 3 IPL centuries has come against the KKR. Warner also holds the record for the most number of half-centuries in IPL history and has always given the Sunrisers a steady start alongside Shikhar Dhawan.
3T). AB de Villiers (3 IPL Centuries)
Continuing the RCB trend, next player in the list of most IPL centuries is the swashbuckling South African batsman AB de Villiers. ABD has 3 centuries from 129 IPL innings 1 of those came for Delhi Daredevils and 2 for the RCB.
AB de Villiers will have an even bigger responsibility in the next season of IPL with Gayle’s exit from the club. ABD and Kohli will be the pillars of RCB’s batting and will need able support from the new signings Quinton De Kock and Brendon McCullum.
5). Adam Gilchrist (2 IPL Centuries)
Adam Gilchrist finds his way into the list of most IPL centuries as he has taken fewer innings (80) than all the other players who have 2 IPL centuries to their names. Brendon McCullum, Virender Sehwag, Murali Vijay, Shane Watson and Hashim Amla (16 innings) all have scored 2 hundreds in Indian Premier League.
