South African captain Aiden Markram has congratulated and credited Team India for their ODI series win and claimed that his team was not up to the mark facing against the Indian spinners – Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav.

India’s first ODI series win in South Africa

India recorded their first ever ODI series win in South Africa after beating The Proteas by 73 runs in the 5th ODI at St George’s Park, Port Elizabeth and once again it was Kuldeep Yadav (4 wkts) and Yuzvendra Chahal (2 wkts) who did the damage for Team India.

Hardik Pandya was the surprise player on the day as it was he who picked the crucial wickets of JP Duminy and AB de Villiers and saw the home side lose 3 wickets inside 13 overs while chasing a steep total of 274.

Hardik Pandya struck gold when he later ran out Hashim Amla who was South Africa’s best batsman on the day scoring 71 runs and finally finding some form along the way. After Amla’s wicket, it was an easy task for the Indian spinners, and Aiden Markram credited India’s ODI series win to their prolific wrist spinners.

As reported by mid-day, Aiden Markram said: “Our batting wasn’t up to scratch. We lost wickets in clumps. But we have to give credit to India, they’re playing incredibly well. They’ve bowled well, they took wickets and the more we play them, the better we’ll get. So all credit to them [Indian spinners], and we will look to improve our skills against quality wrist spin.”

The 6th ODI will be played at Centurion where the Men in Blue have already beaten South Africa in the series and Yuzvendra Chahal was the star man on that night picking up 5 wickets. While India will be looking to wrap the series in an emphatic manner with a 5-1 series scoreline, South Africans will be playing for their pride and give them the much needed confidence boost going into the T20I series against India.
