Australian stars Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell will miss the opening game of the new Indian Premier League (IPL 2018) season for their respective sides with Finch getting married on the 7th April and Maxwell being the MC (Master of Ceremonies) for this wedding.

BCCI released the IPL 2018 fixture list yesterday (14 Feb), which will see IPL defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) v Chennai Super Kings (CSK) kick things off in the IPL 2018 on 7th April. Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and Delhi Daredevils (DD) take on each other in the next game which Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell will now definitely miss as they were expected in the IPL 2018 to start in the second week of April.

Aaron Finch, Glenn Maxwell to miss their IPL 2018 opener

Aaron Finch is currently in New Zealand to take part in the ongoing T20 tri-series against England and New Zealand, where he confirmed that he has conveyed his decision to Kings XI Punjab’s team coach and Aaron Finch’s long-time friend, Brad Hodge, that he would be missing the opening IPL fixture of 2018.

Tough to miss wedding for IPL 2018: Aaron Finch

Aaron Finch told the media in Auckland on Thursday, as reported by Cricket Australia,

“I saw the fixture this morning – there’s no chance I’ll be missing my wedding. That’d be a bit tough leaving Amy at the altar, wouldn’t it?”

“The second game we play is on the 13th, that’ll give me plenty of time to get over there and miss only one game luckily.”

Missing one IPL fixture won’t be the end of the world

Aaron Finch said that he had told his friend Brad Hodge about his plans for the wedding, and that he would have to miss the IPL 2018 opener due to it. However, Finch doesn’t seem to be sweating too much, as he has been playing with KXIP for a while now, and knows that it won’t be the end of the world,

“Having one of my good mates ‘Hodgey’ as coach … he knows about it now. I did wait a bit longer to send him the invite before the auction.”

“It’s just a case of missing one game but hopefully playing with Kings over a three-year period, it’s not the end of the world.”

Australian players to miss Finch’s wedding

Given that 2018 opening IPL fixture would clash with Aaron Finch’s marriage, many of the current Australia players won’t be able to attend to their teammate’s wedding. David Warner (Sunrisers Hyderabad), Steve Smith (Rajasthan Royals) will be captaining their sides while the likes of Mitchell Starc (KKR), Chris Lynn (KKR), D’Arcy Short (Rajasthan Royals) and Marcus Stoinis (Kings XI Punjab) will be tied to their IPL commitments.

Glenn Maxwell, however, is the MC (Master of Ceremonies) for Finch’s wedding (ceremony in-charge, in simple words), and has informed his new team Delhi Daredevils of his absence from the franchise’s opening IPL fixture for the 2018 season. Both Finch and Maxwell are expected to be back for the second game for their franchisee and help them to enjoy a successful Indian Premier League season.
