India U19: Prithvi Shaw doesn’t want comparisons with Sachin Tendulkar

India’s U19 World Cup winning captain Prithvi Shaw thinks he is yet to earn the right of being compared with the great Sachin Tendulkar and he needs to keep his feet grounded and only focus on scoring big runs in coming years. It can be said that clearly the work ethics and values of India U19 coach Rahul Dravid have rubbed off Shaw quite well, as is visible by his cricket.

The next Sachin Tendulkar?

Prithvi Shaw is being hailed as the next Sachin Tendulkar given the youngster’s flamboyant shot-making and cricket reading skills. Shaw overtook Sachin’s record of becoming the youngest cricket player ever to score a hundred on Duleep Trophy Debut.

Prithvi Shaw is doing his bit to stay away from the hype and focused on doing well at Vijay Hazare trophy and continue scoring runs in this year’s Indian Premier League. Shaw will play for the Delhi Daredevils in Indian Premier League 2018, after the franchise signed the 19-year-old for INR 1.2 crore in the IPL 2018 player auctions.

Revealing his immediate plans, Prithvi Shaw said, as reported by the Asian Age,

“Expectations will be there from outside the field. People have been comparing me to Sachin sir, but I know my game and I had better be grounded because he is the god of cricket. I have not even started and it’s going to be a long journey.”

Rahul Dravid’s impact on Prithvi Shaw and India U19

Prithvi Shaw also highlighted the role the India U19 coach Rahul Dravid has played in his evolution as India’s U19 World Cup captain. Shaw believed Dravid’s focus on dealing with the mental side of the game helped him and the other youngsters to prepare well for the bigger matches.

There was never any sign of negative talks from Rahul Dravid during India U19 practice or in the team meetings, and neither did Dravid stress too much on the technique as he let these kids play their natural game and express themselves on the pitch.

Rahul Dravid is set to continue as the coach of India U19 side and would hope to find another batsman and captain like Prithvi Shaw and enjoy another stellar World Cup campaign in about 2 years time.
