India U19 stars in Vijay Hazare Trophy, ft. Prithvi Shaw, Shubman Gill

The India U19 team arrived back in India this week after lifting the U19 World Cup on Saturday following their 8-wicket win against Australia. The youngsters will have very little time to celebrate their U19 World Cup accolades, as most of them will be joining their respective state teams to play in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy of India, including India U19 captain Prithvi Shaw and star batsman Shubman Gill.

India U19 stars available for Vijay Hazare Trophy – Prithvi Shaw, Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, Anukul Roy, Shivam Mavi, Riyan Parag

India U19 captain Prithvi Shaw has already joined up with his Mumbai team-mates and is expected to open the innings for them on Thursday against Tamil Nadu. The 18-year-old scored 261 runs in the U19 World Cup, including 2 well-made fifties.

Prithvi Shaw was in supreme touch last season, as he hit five hundreds in his 9 matches, including two consecutive hundreds against Tamil Nadu and Odisha.

Second highest run-scorer from India U19, in the ICC U19 World Cup, Shubman Gill will be part of the Punjab team, along with all-rounder Abhishek Sharma. The duo will be playing under the captaincy of veteran Harbhajan Singh, while Yuvraj Singh will take up the vice-captaincy role in the team.

Speaking about Gill’s inclusion in the squad, Punjab coach Ajay Ratra said, “Shubman was in blazing form during the World Cup. The way he batted against Pakistan in the semifinal was commendable. Abhishek too chipped in whenever he could with the bat and bowl. Their inclusion will definitely help the Punjab team in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.”

Anukul Roy who was the joint highest wicket-taker in ICC U19 World Cup, will be part of the Jharkhand team, which will be led by youngster Ishan Kishan. Roy will most probably take part in Jharkhand’s match against Services.

Shivam Mavi who caught the attention of the cricketing world with his express pace in the under-19 World Cup is part of the Uttar Pradesh squad. While batsman Riyan Parag, who didn’t get much of a chance to bat in the World Cup will turn out for the Assam team. The Northeast will play it’s first league match of the Vijay Hazare trophy against Karnataka on Thursday.
