Sussex have added Afghanistan’s mystery leg-spinner Rashid Khan to their squad for the first half of the Natwest T20 Blast’s 2018 season. Rashid Khan has been in sensational form in last 12-18 months picking wickets for fun in the International and domestic T20 cricket.
Rashid Khan has picked up 47 wickets from 29 T20I games for Afghanistan and finished as the highest wicket-taker in the recently concluded Big Bash T20 League for the Adelaide Strikers.
Rashid Khan picked up 18 wickets in the Big Bash League from 11 matches with a mean economy rate of 5.65 RPO. It was Rashid’s exploits which got Adelaide Strikers to the final where they defeated Hobart Hurricanes to win their first ever Big Bash title.
Jason Gillespie, the title-winning Adelaide Strikers coach has been lined up to manage Sussex at the upcoming Natwest T20 Blast and the Aussie could not help but bring Rashid Khan along with him.
Gillespie was very impressed with Rashid’s work ethic during their time at the Big Bash league and said, as reported by BBC, “I have been incredibly impressed with his attitude, work ethic and team-first mentality,” said Gillespie.
“His form for Afghanistan and the T20 teams he has played for over the last couple of years has been phenomenal.”
Rashid will also play in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League after being signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 9 Crore. Rashid has also played at the T20 competitions like Bangladesh Premier League and the Caribbean Premier League.
