In a league as competitive and tight as the Indian Premier League (IPL) where the batsmen and bowlers are evenly matched in almost every game, it is often the fielding that makes a difference and decides the eventual winner of the match.

We have seen some extraordinary catches being taken in the IPL over the years and here is a list of 5 players who have taken the most number of catches in the history of the league.

1. Suresh Raina – 86 IPL catches

Other than being the highest run-scorer in the history of the IPL, Suresh Raina is also the man who has taken the most number of catches in the league over the last decade. While playing for Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Lions, Raina has taken 86 catches in his 161 appearances in the IPL and has a catch per innings average of 0.537. An IPL legend in every right!

2. AB de Villiers – 72 IPL catches

Classical straight drives, reverse sweeps, switch hits, flying catches – The superman from South Africa can literally do anything and everything on a cricket field. You name it, he can do it. Ab de Villiers started his IPL journey with the Delhi Daredevils and is now a talisman for Royal Challengers Bangalore. In this time, he has taken 72 catches with an astonishing average of 0.75 catch in every innings.

3. Rohit Sharma – 71 IPL catches

The three-time IPL winning captain also has a particularly safe pair of hands in the field which is also demonstrated by his catching record in the league. With 71 catches in 159 IPL matches, Rohit is third in the list of players who have taken the most number of catches in the last 10 seasons. Rohit’s 0.446 catch per innings has been a quiet but significant factor behind Mumbai Indians’ success.

4. Kieron Pollard – 70 IPL catches

West Indian all-rounder Kieron Pollard has been an ever-present force for the Mumbai Indians in the last eight IPL seasons and has contributed significantly to their three title wins. Pollard’s catch per innings average is 0.569 which has seen him take 70 catches in 123 IPL matches till date.

5. Dwayne Bravo – 60 IPL catches

You just can’t keep West Indian players away from any IPL all-time list and veteran all-rounder Dwayne Bravo is another name on this list. Bravo has played for Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Lions during his IPL journey and has safely held 60 catches in 106 IPL appearances, with a catch per innings average of 0.571. Virat Kohli has also taken 60 catches but has played 43 more IPL games than Bravo.
