The season 11 of the Indian Premier League is just a few weeks away and the recent auction held in Bengaluru gave the 8 teams a chance to complete their squads following the announcement of their retained players. Sunrisers Hyderabad will be pretty pleased with their effort in the auction, as they managed to keep the core of the team which won the IPL Trophy in 2016. Match winners like David Warner, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rashid Khan and Kane Williamson will continue with SRH for IPL 2018, and it will be interesting to see which 4 overseas players does SRH choose to finalise before IPL 2018 starts.
Apart from the above mentioned 4 players, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) also managed to bring in some quality foreign talent in the form of Shakib Al Hasan, Billy Stanlake, Mohammed Nabi, Mehdi Hasan, Chris Jordan and Carlos Brathwaite. Amongst this group of players, it will be very hard for coach Tom Moody and captain David Warner to choose those 4 foreign players who will get a chance in the matchday XI of IPL 2018.
Here we look at those 4 foreign who will most likely start for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 1st match of the season 11 (IPL 2018).
Captain and the most consistent batsman over the past few seasons of the IPL, David Warner will again be leading the Sunrisers Hyderabad as they look to win the season 11 title, which will be their 2nd IPL trophy in just 3 years. Warner has over 4000 IPL runs, highest amongst the foreign players, and has won the Orange Cap twice till now including last year.
If fit, Warner will definitely be leading the team out on the park in IPL 2018. His form has been little streaky recently but there is no doubting the fact that if there is one format he loves the most it is T20. His explosive batting style has enabled him to take the match from the opposition single-handedly on many occasions, which is why he ought to be one of the 4 overseas players for SRH in IPL 2018.
Shakib Al Hasan
A truly smart buy from the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Shakib Al Hasan has taken only 43 IPL wickets in 43 matches but at an astonishing economy of 7.17. Apart from the ball, the former Bangladesh captain has also contributed with crucial knocks with the bat for Kolkata Knight Riders in the previous seasons.
If Shakib can sustain any sort of form, he will prove to be a very crucial player for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at very important junctures of their matches in IPL 2018. He could give them 20-30 quickfire runs at the end of the innings and then chip in with the wickets while restricting the flow of runs. Shakib Al Hasan could be one of the 4 overseas players for SRH in IPL 2018.
Carlos Brathwaite was another very useful all-rounder that Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to snap up in the auction and that too at his base price of INR 2 crores. Frankly, it was pretty shocking to see none of the other franchises going for the West Indies T20 captain, given that he has played some very explosive knocks in his T20 career.
Brathwaite is no muck with the ball as well, picking up 8 wickets in just 10 IPL matches with the best of 3/47. He will give SRH a very useful batting option if the team chooses to include the West Indies cricketer in the 4 overseas players category.. Brathwaite will need to wary of his performances as any dip could lead to him being dropped to the bench in IPL 2018.
The whole auction room went quiet, once Rashid Khan’s name was announced in the auction. Every team sitting in that auction room wanted the Afghanistan international, who is probably the best T20 bowler in the world. The 19-year-old name at the auction was followed by what was the most intense period of bidding over the 2 days of the event. After what was about 20 minutes of bidding, SRH used their RTM card to snatch him for INR 9 crores.
Rashid Khan has been in terrific form recently, especially for the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League and will be itching to go again for SRH in IPL 2018, as there are high chances that the Afghanistan cricketer will be one of the 4 overseas players after his massive success last season.
