The mysterious Afghanistan off-spinner Mujeeb Zadran became only the third player from his country to sign for an Indian Premier League (IPL) club when Kings XI Punjab signed Zadran for an eye-catchy sum of INR 4 crore in the player auction of 2018. Zadran has already represented his country at the senior level and was also part of their U19 World Cup squad.
Zadran has taken the International cricket by storm by picking 4 wickets on his debut vs Ireland and is regarded as the next best mystery spinner, which is the reason behind his entrance into the IPL. 1). He had a very lavish and wealthy childhood
Unlike his other compatriots, Mujeeb Zadran enjoyed a rather lavish lifestyle when he was young. He lived in a palace and had all the facilities while growing up so much so, he had a private zoo inside his home/palace.
2). Mujeeb’s first cousin is Noor Ali Zadran
Mujeeb’s love for Cricket grew at his home as his first cousin is the current Afghanistan player Noor Ali Zadran. The hard-hitting batsman had set up a small cricket academy inside Mujeeb’s palace, where the spinner learned his initial craft.
3). Mujeeb got his inspiration from Ajantha Mendis and Sunil Narine
Mujeeb liked the idea of spin bowling and developed his skill at home while playing with tennis balls. However, when it came to finding the key details of spin bowling, Mujeeb saw Ajantha Mendis and Sunil Narine go about their bowling from Youtube videos.
4). Mujeeb Zadran had suffered rejection at the age of 15
Mujeeb Zadran was making huge waves across the domestic cricket in Afghanistan after bamboozling the senior cricketers at a cricket camp back in his country. Mujeeb took part in a selection camp and was certain to get selected, however, the young spinner was rejected and sent home.
5). He learned his mystery ball at a family gathering
Soon after his rejection, Mujeeb was back playing cricket in his neighborhood and one day at a family gathering he faced a carrom ball and was left surprised. He approached his family member and asked how he managed to turn the ball another way with the same action. He soon mastered that craft and never looked back since.
6). Mujeeb once picked 7 wickets vs Bangladesh in an ODI
Playing at a youth level, Mujeeb Zadran made the headlines for the first time after registering a figure of 19/7 against Bangladesh and helping his team to defend a small total of 133.
7). He was awarded Man of the Match on his ODI debut
Following a string of successful performances in the domestic and youth cricket, Mujeeb Zadran made his debut against Ireland last year and surprised everyone by picking 4 wickets for just 24 runs. Mujeeb was also named the Man of the Match in his very first international game.
